I do not understand why people do not throw squatters out by themselves or by hiring. Even if they complain at least they are out.
This is the first time I’ve heard of something like this.
I’m so angry at this atm, and that’s not even my property - I don’t even live in London. But this… this is incredible. I hope the U.S. doesn’t have this problem, and this is the final nail in the coffin for staying in the UK for me I think…
That story makes me sick. The feel comfortable doing that BECAUSE the police and courts are there. They know that nothing will happen to them. No one would even think about doing that in the “tough” parts of the United States. Haha, can you imagine some hippie squatting in someone’s house in Queens or Brooklyn? They would get shot within a second.
You would give them money to find a place to stay after they purposefully took over your house? If I was a trillionaire, I’d spend the rest of my life trying to make sure theirs were terrible.
That story makes me mad, too. I hope nothing like this ever happens to me.

Is anyone really surprised by this? For most people stealing their house is equivalent to stealing everything they have. Of course the state won’t stop them; Professional Courtesy!

I’m sure if you interviewed them, they all would pump their fists in the air and go “Viva La Prodhoun!”, & rationalize to mutualist ideology instead of their laziness for their squatting. I’m fairly sure mutualists themselves would realize how ridiculous this situation would be.
There could’ve been an easier way for the guy to ensure this never happened: he could’ve hired someone to housesit his property while he was away.
Granted, he probably just didn’t think about, but he could’ve had at least someone go over there to check up on stuff.
Cheaper just to put rat poison in a juice jug in the fridge.

Oh yeah, the burden definitely rests of this guys shoulders to prove he owns / continues to own his property. The deed to the property is just a piece of paper aye.

Technically, the bill of rights and the constitution are just pieces of paper; the track record of state’s actually obeying the limits on their own power is pretty shoddy at best, last I remembered.
But seriously, the guy didn’t have to be an idiot about it, especially when people in England probably would already have it in their best interest to know about the squatter problem, & at least entertain the possibility that this might happen even if they just go off on holiday for a week.
It still sucks, regardless, though. I’m hoping he can appeal to the squatter’s limited intelligence without using force, but I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point he said “Screw it, what they did was wrong”, and just storm in with a few family members and/or friends to take back the house, legal consequences be damned.
There’s a house across the street from my girlfriend’s that has not been occupied in at least 2-3 years. From what I understand the bank owns it, and no one can afford it. I generally park in the driveway due to the amount of cars on the street (one of the new neighbors next to the house parks one of their cars in the grass next to the driveway). I told one of my friends about it and that he can stay there as long as he keeps a low profile. Eventually someone called the cops on him, and he had to leave (how they kicked him out could be an entire story in itself). To now keep trespassers/squatters out they posted some papers on the doors and windows saying it’s condemned and unsafe, which is not the case.
Aren’t there such things as house sitters? I’m sure if you have that much cash, you can have someone watch over it.
His stuff was in the house. He was “using it”. No case for this squatting under mutualism to my knowledge.
A week is different from an entirely empty house being unused for years.
So, we currently have a ton of houses that people bought with a mortgage, and now the bank can’t prove they owe anything since the paperwork is all screwed up. Is the answer here going to be to say “you don’t need to bring proof”? Because that’s quite a funny answer. You can’t take my house, but you also don’t need to bring proof to evict me?
