In the end I’m with AJ; and I think Quine, and Aristotle, and probably even mainstream philosophy - the whole thing is a bit of a pseudo question that isn’t worth one’s time. I just didn’t want to bring it up because I don’t really feel like wasting the mental energy explaining it or thinking about it. Though all three of those articles are good (even the Wittgenstein one, that I threw in by accident)
In so much as there being any problem with individuals being the atomic fact - this really should be uncontroversial. We are the force that names, contextualizes, understands, objectifies, consumes, utilizes and owns the world around us - just by our state of being. To think a quark, a sun, a society, a law, or whatever has something on you, is missing the mark of ontological and inter subjective study and thought - which is what the social sciences deal with - these things are named as the consequence of our actions, not in spite of them.
