I vote for “is war good for the economy”
You should recognize that many Republicans do not understand the Libertarian mentality. They hear open boarders they immedately jump to the conclusion that our social spending will be further divided umong noncontributors. While this is absolutly true, Republicans fail to see that Libertarians oppose social spending dictates from Washington which makes these concerns moot. Libertarianism is an idealogical view of the world that conflicts with the very premise that many of our fellow countrymen have been lead to believe. Unfortunately, reform of our entitlement programs will only come after economic collapse necisitates it. You would do better to make those points known up front to avoid useless debate.
Whose the guy with the anarcho-communist flag?
Anyway, I’ve noticed some interest in the civil war and whether it was fought over slavery or protectionist tariffs. Since neocoservatives tend to deify Lincoln (at least from my personal experience), a civil war thread might be interesting for the future. “Lincoln: Friend or Foe?” to borrow a line from Tom DeLorenzo.
If we do a lincoln one, we should all post a bunch of material on this forum for eachother to look at. I like to source all my claims and it takes a while to find evidence sometimes.
Someone mentioned the war on drugs. I like that idea because it’s a basic libertarian issue and the arguments can be fairly simple (easy for these folks to digest). Most of us should be familiar with that issue and it is easy to find pertinent literature, both empirical and theoretical. Plus, we can make it clear that this is NOT a culture war issue by condemning drug use itself. I am curious to see how they respond to people who condemn drug use but advocate legalization.
We could also suggest decriminalization as a more moderate, intermediary step. Hoepfully, we can keep emotions low.
This explains why those who have just registered cannot have an avatar and so forth:
I’m reading through the Hannity Forum thread now.
I’m on page 4… I’m still laughing at the fact that the one guy referred to you as “Skeeter”, Aquila. No disrespect on my part is intended, but that response is just the precursor of the ignorance that I’m seeing from “the Hannitized”.
The latest post by MarkyS I thought actually has a decent point that those who labor without following the demands of the state are in a position to undercut those who do follow its rules, there’s not much of a good comeback except that if you allow for legal immigration people will have much less of a reson to tax evade, and if welfare programs were made illegal to immigrants then the entire problem would be solved and he’d have nearly 0 ammo. I’m not going to post anymore on the thread until someone else does however, this is not a one man show.
… And Marky is about it for good points though.
oh god there’s a UT person on. There i go to UT ><
Someone made a marijuana legalization thread:
http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?p=75065761&posted=1#post75065761
He doesn’t seem to support legalizing harder drugs though, so I suspect he is not one of us.
When neocons are okay with legalizing marijuana, then the time has come to see it legal.
The UT guy has actually read rothbard. We’re into the public provision of private goods… using http://mises.org/journals/scholar/Murphy6.pdf → coase theorum ftw.
Aquila, well done! Bravo!
I wonder how to best approach NeoCons on their views on public schooling and health care. What are their positions? Vouchers and tort reform?
They are so unbelievably racist and xenophobic. Its americans americans americans americans national defense protect americans.
What thread are you guys on right now at Hannity? Link please?
I posted a link in the original post, here it again:

This is the main thread that Austrians are debating in though I’ve been posting in many others.
Its backwards, so you have to go to the first page of the thread to see the most recent comments.
I’m so glad mises.org doesn’t advertise home insurance or multivitamins for back pain. We don’t even advertise our own store. Its great!
To Sieben, Andrew, and co.,
You’ve really raised the level of discussion. This thread has come a long way since the first few vitriolic pages.
Of course, a lot of that is due to the UT guy–he is very well read. I have immensely enjoyed reading your discussion with him.
“UT guy”
What does UT stand for?
Gentlemen! Considering the sucess thusfar in promoting the views of Austrio-Libertarianism on the Hannity forums I suggest that we form a group called “The Leauge of Extraordinary Austrians”, or L.E.A for short. Should this be considered too presumptuous we could adopt the name “The Leauge of Internet Austrians” or L.I.A… Or if even this is too much Leauge of Austrian Trolls L.A.T. This organization could visit forums from all around the interwebs, the purpose of the organization would be thusly
-
Spread the ideas of the Austrian school of economics and libertarianism
-
Better our understandings of other schools of ideological thought both economically and otherwise in order to further our understandings of the subject and to ensure we reach fully valid conclusions from multiple sources. In this way not only are we attempting to spread our message but to hear the messages of others and consider them in a rational way. Views must be challenged constantly in order to ensure that they are the best conclusions possible, one of my greatest fears is that many on these forums recieve all of their knowledge from a single source, and that is indeed this one.
-
To better understand the reasons why people in general are resistant to our ideas and to understand how to contruct rational and convincing arguments for a general liberty
-
To better our understanding of prevelant ideological memes and the way which the politically keen of our age think and consider ideological ideas
-
To instill a general hostility towards all undue actions by the state, and a general distrust of said entity
-
To promote a general environment for rational proactive discussion, debate, and all around exchange of ideas and concept. Hostility, flaming, pettyness, and assumption are to be avoided at all costs
WHAT SAY YOU!
… And yes I’m serious… Super serious
