Glenn Beck, Pat Buchanan and Murray Polner

That’s why they wanted to secede, not why they had a war. Sheesh.

You were more radical that that.

You said not that you condone the use of violence to free slaves.

But that you condone state violence to extinguish a culture

I did, and you will not get me to run from it. If it is a slave culture, it needs extinguished by any means necessary. Slavery is an abomination. If the south were to seceed again to reinstitute slavery, and the north declared war on them once again, I would sign up to fight asap. Sometimes the state does do good things, tho usually for the wrong reasons (like many reasons behind the Civil War, and social security because it allows the FED to print tons of money, making bankers even richer).

I guess we would be perfectly justified invading Thailand since they have so many sex slaves.

If free people attempt to free those sex slaves and the philipine military stops them violently, then the US declares war, I would support such a war.

If Blackwater started invading for the purposes of freeing the sex slaves, I would support such actions.

One can not wait idly bye while people are oppressed. “All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men (and women) to do nothing.” I know you hate Lincoln, but he’s right about that.

““All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men (and women) to do nothing.” I know you hate Lincoln, but he’s right about that.”

Isn’t that quote from Burke?

It could be, I might be mistaken. I’ll check

EDIT: you’re right.

Thomas Dilorenzo’s next book is about how Lincoln loved him some Thai ladyboys.

And doing anything but engaging in warfare is to be considered waiting idly by?

I question whether war can make people more free/less oppressed. Even if it can, there are other means to this end. If these other means are considered too slow in comparison to swift warfare and political revolution, the costs incurred by war (physical and immediate as well as ideological and distant) outweigh whatever is gained by the allegedly quicker and allegedly more certain solution offered by war.

Also, since no one has seemed to ask it, what does it mean to extinguish a culture, and how does one achieve it?

*And doing anything but engaging in warfare is to be considered waiting idly by?*

Of course not, else we should all be out in the Sudan right now or N Korea.

Warfare is not neccessarily bad, in and of itself. It is the means and the ends of warfare that may go bad. Tho it is admittedly overkill.

But history has shown that class warfare and violent revolution can do much to liberate society. I contend the Civil War and WW2 are two examples.

Also, since no one has seemed to ask it, what does it mean to extinguish a culture, and how does one achieve it?

Well, you could use the word extinguish to draw up images of hellfire and brimstone. And in many cases they can turn bloody and violent as cited above. But it all boils down to education. The culture dies when no one/not many accept its legitimacy. Sometimes it is like a child figuring things out for himself with help from his community. Sometimes it is the child rebelling against its oppressive overseers.

Were I living in the time I would have gave vocal support to the Union war effort while giving physical support to the abolitionists and people actually freeing slaves (underground railroad, etc). No one wanted it to turn to full scale war, but sometimes free people must stand up for those still in oppression.

I lol’d.

Every interventionist talks real, real tough, and yet I never ever see any of them enlist or put their keister in the line of fire.

lol, that is true. And I cannot say that I do. But my country of origin isn’t exactly having violent political/economic struggles. So, while I support revolution, and oppose imperialism; I practice reformism in my peaceful area.

I am glad that you will stick to your words. It is much easier to talk that way.

Of course the question is wether southern culture equals slavery. And it doesn’t.

Not Sudan, Washington. Sweep the pile of garbage in front of your own doorstep before you worry about a few pieces of trash in front of your neighbour’s.

Of course the question is wether southern culture equals slavery. And it doesn’t.

That’s not the question at all. I never said anything about wiping out the southern culture. I said the “southern slave culture had to go.” The world is far better of w/o slavery. And we can wax and wain about how soon the south would have abolished it anyway. But honestly, one cannot postdict the future.

Sweep the pile of garbage in front of your own doorstep before you worry about a few pieces of trash in front of your neighbour’s.

I agree. Unless of course my neighbor’s trash poses a public health hazard, and mine is just a half full can. Then it is time he and I cleaned it up, I would think.

Sure you can be pro-war. You just realize how inefficient it is.

Maybe that is what you meant to write. But it is not what you actually wrote. Full quote from the first page:

But of course it is the trash in Washington that poses a global health hazard whereas the garbage in Sudan or Norea Korea is only hazardous for the Sudaneese and the Koreans.

“Support slave society… southern culture had to go.”

Context is a beautiful thing

But of course it is the trash in Washington that poses a global health hazard whereas the garbage in Sudan or Norea Korea is only hazardous for the Sudaneese and the Koreans

I know. Let’s start the revolution! Oh wait.. we’re too fat and comfortable. So while we sit on our cracks all day and complain about how good we have it, I’ll support people’s liberation movements across the world.

Well, we already know that you morally support communist revolutions strategically titled “people’s liberation”.

And I suppose you support the UN, IMF, and World Bank interests they rebel against?

Yes it is. You used southern culture and slave society interchangeably.
