How to Quote a post in a reply on the Mises Forums

Learn how to quote.

Bump.

I’m answering, not because of the bump, but because you’ve helped me out with other threads recently.

One way is to put the word qoute in square barckets before the words quoted, and then /quote in barckets after the phrase. I am verbose in describing, because actually typing the symbols will make them disappear and put what I’m writing in a quote box.

The other is to look around for a long thread on this very topic, where at the end of the thread a link or something to a workaround was posted.

Ah, found it. This.

Thanks liberty student and nirgraham,

I also discovered that this works:

  1. Try to block-quote like we used to do (select text and click “Quote” link)
  2. Then click Back and then forward again in your browser.

You should then see all the appropriate text and block-quote tags in your text field.

This has worked for me in Chrome and Safari, but not Firefox.

wow the back and forward thing works!

okay.

Thanks for the tip.

I’d also like to point out that when you go to reply to a post, the URL looks like this:

https://forum.freecapitalists.org/forums/AddPost.aspx?ReplyToPostID=385142&Quote=False

All you do is delete the “False” at the end, and replace it with “True,” hit return/enter so the page reloads with the new address, and BOOM! The quote appears like magic.

No fancy coding, bookmarklets, etc.

holy shizzle! it works!!

LOL. It’s True.

yeah, that’s precisely how the bookmarklet works

I figured it would be somewhat helpful for people who were on systems so locked-down that “bookmarklets” aren’t an option. I.E. Me, at work, on a company machine.

Seconding Cool User Name’s Question:

Why don’t they just make the “quote” button at the reply screen work? Or do you know a way to use it? Any time I’ve clicked it nothing happens.

Come on, people. Forum programming is not magic.
