How will the statist era be looked back on in the future?

I suspect it will be like us we view the change in the natural sciences from static world to dynamic world (in living and non-living matter). Everything up to this point has been a slow realignment from that sudden change in narrative of an ever powerful God overhead giving sanction to the State and its minions to something else (God detached from Man’s affairs? Or possibly Godless/unintelligent force in the Universe? Etc?) less familiar. It’s a painful process as it’s never easy to give up on what one believes in (Do you think it was easy for some early Protestant Christians to give up on the Catholic Church or for the Church to give up its hold on those Christians?). Just food for thought.

An agoristic game would be awesome. It would be like Railroad Tycoon, but set in the modern era, and about half of the game would be about running smuggling operations and other covert activites. Hire mercenaries to protect your cargo. Get a team of geeks (ala Uplink) to cover your digital tracks (i.e. transmitting goldgrams via Tor encrypted torrent files as payment or to set up new branches in other countries). Bribe a greedy trade official to get your bootlegged DVDs into Shanghai or organize mass votes on online poll for your favored political candidate. It would accomplish what Mafia and it’s sequel tried, and more.

Already frowning godammit, why doesn’t anyone from Ubisoft or Sega read these threads?

*points to self.

Ahem…Maybe if you don’t mind playing around with code yourself maybe some of us may lend a hand in a half-decent website based game like this.

My knowledge of programming is about as extensive as my knowledge of Chinese, but I think the independent game DopeWars could be a good model for early editions of the game. I really imagined it more in the graphical style of Uplink, though:

Though, with detailed terrain and units like Civilization IV:

Dwarf Fortress is a good example of a game that has, over it’s development, changed dramaticaly (from a 2D to a pseudo-3D planar based game). I could easily see this project transitioning from a text based prototype to a fully graphical commercial game.
