Idea to Convert Non-Austrians

That’s the advantage we have over others: sound economic reasoning.

If we could really muster up the cash, we could easily print up thousands of pamphlets and really create a difference.

The idea isn’t to compete. It’s to create a separate site just to spread the books.

That’s a good idea.

Actually on the scholarship idea, I was thinking about that earlier: there are thousands of students around the world who would willingly sacrifice some of their time to write a short essay for very little in terms of reward (their time isn’t worth much!). At the very least it would get them researching the subject and thinking about AE. The financial reward (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes) wouldn’t have to be that large to attract interest.

Some questions left are: what’s the most effective way to promote it to the largest possible audience; and how do we fund it (or better yet make money from it)?

Well as was mentioned earlier in the thread, for the folks down under and elsewhere in the world I imagine, it costs a bomb to get books sent here. And may be worthy, considering demand etc to print locally, removing the expensive shipping costs and time, and quality permitting - be able to produce books in Aus & sell them here.

I’ll be looking into this further. A extended family member works in the publishing / book industry, so we’ll soon see what’s up.

Maybe Tucker could give us a low down on how the books and printed etc?

Conza, you could easily download the PDFs off of Mises.org and have them into books in Australia. You would totally avoid the import duties and the cost of having the books shipped from the USA.

That’s the plan Dan! [:D]

Part of the problem so far has been with re-sizing the pdf’s to particular sizes, not sure how to do that yet and haven’t had a chance to look into it too much.

Also they would be lacking book covers etc. (If we want to take it that far, which I think the customers will want the same level of quality) then we’ll have to figure something out.

anyone have much experience with this technology?

You don’t necessarily have to start off with a bang. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on a graphic-design team for the covers. A simple, inexpensive, and practical cover could do for now. You have to start off small; not big, unless you have the capital to risk. Later on, you could make flashier covers. Btw, paperback or hardcover?

True.. the goal would be to get it as close to what LvMI is selling, as high a quality as possible - for as low a price. As a customer… that’s what I’d want. lol

Depends on the number of pages and style of binding etc. Print on demand services are about $9ish Aus per 100pgs - with binding from memory at a few dollars more. Just been compiling some of the smaller sized texts that I personally would be interested in getting a hard copy of, as would others I imagine.

[:|] But yeah, there are tons more that could be added to the list.. will have to at least get things started before looking for all book possibilities. [:)]
