There have been optimistic times when it comes to human nature. Think back to the ideas that became popular enough to stir such things as the Declaration of Independence and it wasn’t seen by the majority as a quack document. It is certainly a very pessimistic era presently. I mean politicans don’t simply mistrust the individual to upon their own liberty live their own life, but politicans by nature mistrust each other and now try to devise a world government. This is a very pessimistic maneuver on their part. They mistrust humans so much that more control is asked and sought over human pursuits. This again is directly related to the feedback loop I discussed earlier. The increase in government leads directly to an increase of desperate people which leads directly to pessimism about human nature due to the increased population of desperate people that occurs because of the increased government - BUT - politicans try to solve this disaster and their own pessimism about human nature increases because they see more desperate people who can’t take care of themselves but that’s only because the government policies are making this in the first place. Yet what do politicans do - they increase government because they are pessimistic that humans can take care of themselves, but when they increase the government humans CAN’T take care of themselves because the government makes policies that won’t let them so more desperate people are generated in this kind of situation.
Think about it. Why are the politicans making this move towards a world government? Is it because they believe people are able to take care of the current probems themselves? Heck no. They believe they have to step in and solve the problems. They are very pessimistic about human nature. I think to be a politican on that level - such as Obama and Bush, etc… - is to despise human nature to the point that undoubtedly they probably have backroom jokes about civil society and they rest of humanity are only scum, dirty, stupid, and sheeple. They undoubtedly spit on the rest of humanity in their dreams thinking how stupid people are. This is why I have quickly become to find the quality in the so-called sheeple. In a way, I find their on-going perserverance and somewhat hostility to pay attention to what the government as a form of anarchy if you will. It is really the so-called sheeple that depise the government and find it not worth their time to take note of. The apathy in people to vote and more is not a problematic event; but it could be if they don’t realize what they do. But maybe they don’t need to realize what they do. Maybe everybody is quietly walking away from the government and shrugging off the government as a rather annoyance and not something worthwhile. I mean I think that’s true - that the government is more an annoyance and not worthwhile. Whether a person knows that or not might not matter in the long run.
Actually it’s my great empathy and feeling of suffering that motivates me to find a solution that works, not one that fails. I feel burdened by the fact that I want peace and a great many of people that I encounter find peace to be so trival and lacks the time of day to contemplate. It’s this lack of contemplating the real power that sustains people, for destruction doesn’t sustain it destroys, so, it is this lack of ponderance upon creativity and peace that I find myself in a fragile position burdened by the fact that people don’t have the patience to solve problems with solutions but rather half-ass solutions, pardon the phrase, that don’t really solve anything but leaves the next generation to deal with what people today lacked the strength to deal with themselves. It’s really the government and politicans that are weak. They give in and sell-out. Only making it worse over and over again until another blow-up has to occur.
Yes. And since humans can’t govern themselves, individually, you are proposing a government composed of individual humans.
Or maybe this central power you dream of should be an ALIEN central power ? Maybe you think ‘we’ need a martian government ? Or a venusian government ?
This just is not true. The Neolithic city of Jericho is famous for having walls, there were also walls alreay in place throughout much of Mesopotamia and the Indus River Valley. There have been walls dug up from Neolithic China as well, which is far removed from the Near East.. Walls were already in place far before Sargon walked into history.
That’s true. I was using an older source. Though I couldn’t find anything about Neolithic China being older. It still validates my original proposition. My empirical facts were off though.
edit: And I may have been unfair in my presentation too. I don’t think, from what I’ve read, it’s meant to protray that Sargon ushered in an era of walls. After re-reading the source material, it appears Sargon was an extension of this era (though after the walls came up). For he, as far as I know, is the first or one of the first to have long hymns written on behalf of his conquering. Again, I’m not an expert (and I didn’t re-read the whole source material), and this is really side-tracking from what my original proposition was, but it’s interesting none-the-less.
There is good evidence Sargon may indeed have been a proliferator and intellectual bearer of many nasty habits in the Near East such as war and reaching new frontiers of state promting propaganda. He was consistently refered to in Mesopotamian sources as “a New Man”, signiling a new era of intellectual thoughts. On an interesting “did you know” trivia that could show the change in perceptions, there are even some who postulate that the Biblical character of Nimrod is Sargon (this of course, is highly speculative). However, the institutions of warfare were already in place by the time he stepped on the scene.
warfare existed and ceremonial warfare is old. chimpanzees battle each other. I meant to show that ca. Sargon era which includes somewhat before but I think he was somekind of archetypical character, a pinnacle if you will, which goes along with what you said, “a New Man”. This era of his is where signs of the first large, massive warring evolves.
This doesn’t mean humans by nature are to submit to what I, and obviously others, deem beastly urges. It is quite the strong-willed to rise above those urges and turn lust into love, war into peace, etc… This has nothing to do with suppressing emotions. I get very angry and feel ‘hate’, but it doesn’t mean I go and act on them in horid ways. I turn such energies around and try to exercise patience and love in the longer term and thus my immediate anger does not boil into war. But again, I’m not a pacifist so I do have my limits.
The point is peace and production (and to an extent trade) are the only ways to ensure human survival as a whole. Those are the only traits that allow us to exist. If people held the philosophy warfare for the sake of warfare, or theft to survive in life, or a life style of subsidies we would be wiped out. An individual can gain from a destructive or subsidized unproductive life, but it can not be the prevailing way of life for most people for a prolonged period of time, for obvious reasons. Peace and production is the engine of humanity as a whole, and the only form of life which, ultamitly, allows an individual to survive.
Now I’m going off from memory on this, so I could be wrong, but I don’t think that epithet has anything to do with any intellectual revolution. Sargon of Akkad, according to legend, was a royal cupbearer who became king (possibly by killing the former king). “New man” might refer to his being an upstart king. It also might have to do with him being a Semite. The Sumerians were a non-semitic people, but for centuries before Sargon’s rise, Semites were becoming integrated into Sumerian society. It would make sense for these Semites to be called “new men”, and especially for Sargon, the first Semite to rule over Sumerians, to be called a new man.
