Is there any good to religion?

For you, good sir, a link to Merriam-Webster online. I am specifically using the first definition: “a maxim widely accepted on its intrinsic merit”.

Again, even with this definition, how is it an axiom?

No axiom. Acton’s fundamental theorem of sociology.

Anti-racism is personal preference. I look down on Bayern fans too. Flat Earth is observably false.

You know, that gets thrown around a lot, this “flat-earthers” phrase, but the fact is that no educated person in the western world thought the world was flat since at least the 3rd century BC, and the most learned people of medieval times were the clergy.

As for racism, materialists, Darwinists, have been far its most pernicious and ardent promoters. The eugenic ideas of the West in the 20th century were made taboo by their associations with Nazism, but, should that philosophy continue to dominate our centers of learning, it will only be a matter of time until more begin to talk about eliminating, or utilizing for the benefit of the stronger, the weaker members and “subspecies” of man in common discourse.

If by directly you mean by sense perception, yes that is exactly what I mean. Object constancy that infants lack is compatible with them directly observing. It really could have been that things disappear, except as time went on you learned otherwise.

I do not know what to think of religion any longer.

I am grateful for my Catholic school education.

I am not grateful for the taboos that such religion has imposed upon me and my folks.

Jesus died because of rebellion to the local authorities of his time.

Thousands more have also died because of the same rebellion to the authorities of the Church or Islam…

etc. etc. etc.

I am utterly confused on religion.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT AND INDISPUTABLE.

Religion is not God/the spiritual world/the afterlife/or whatever you call it. Religion is supposed to be the answer to any spiritual question.

But these are the facts: Men kill far better in religion’s name. This is the human difference that is the most difficult to handle and the one that separates men from one another.

I am myself a Christian; however I would give it up if Humanity were to come together as one, regardless of race, language or religion.

WE ARE ALL ONE.

Well, I dunno, Communism is an explicitly atheist political philosophy, responsible globally for more deaths than any religion, or maybe all religions, combined, more than 100 million.

No, we’re not. Now, why are we disagreeing with ourselves?

You know, the word “strawman” comes to mind.

Except not, given that racism existed for millenia before Darwin was born.

Why don’t you peddle your lies to your uneducated friends.

Wrong. It is the ultimate state-as-god philosophy.

“It helped in early days to fix the calendar, and it caused Egyptian priests to chronicle eclipses with such care that in time they became able to predict them. These two services I am prepared to acknowledge, but I do not know of any others.”

Bertrand Russell

Except that Marxism actually looks forward to the state becoming obsolete.

In other words, the atheist element to communism is incidental to the mass-murder. It’s the politics that correlates with the mass-murder. Wether or not one is atheist is entirely non-essential to the equation. Atheism is not a political philosophy, nor does it inherently lead to a particular political philosophy. To blame the negative effects of communism on atheism, as if atheism is the cause for communism, is laughable on its face. There is no necessary connection between the two.

A nitpick: racism is likewise observably false.

The problem I see with things like religions and racism is that they involve concepts that don’t correlate to reality, and concepts that don’t correlate to reality have been the main justifications for coercion throughout history.

By religion not correlating to reality you mean that you don’t understand it, which is hardly a convincing argument against religion. In fact, if you could understand God that would be a far more convincing argument.

And how exactly does racism “not correlate to reality”?

Is belief in the nonaggression axiom not a religion? Why?

No, I do not mean that I don’t understand it, I mean that the concept of a god does not correlate to reality, and that ugly things are easily done in the name of these platonic (I.E. purely floating) concepts. What you call the lack of understanding of god is really an indication that the concept itself doesn’t correlate to reality, because there is no way to empirical verify it, and hence it is a purely floating concept that can be used as an authority without people having to actually use their reason and subject the authority to scrutiny. This is precisely why it’s so dangerous, as it’s an authority that is detached from any accountility to logic and evidence from the get go.

The concept of a race, as used by racists at least, does not correlate to reality. There is no autonamous “race” in itself and there is no rational reason to be obligated to such an abstraction. That’s just collectivistic bulldung. In other words, the theory of racism is wrong, debunked by common sense. Period. It functions in the same way as the deity or the state and so on. The race (in a holistic or transcendental sense) is used as an authority and yet there is no logical reason to accept the authority of this floating concept. Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop the delusional from using such an authority as a tool to act like pricks.

People are slaves to floating abstractions first - THEN the tyranny comes.

Perhaps he is confusing communism with stateless socialism?

Is belief in the five senses (as an axiom) not a religion? Why?

The question is confused and/or playing word games.

A race is a group of people with common ancestors: Han Chinese, sub-Saharan Africans, Jews, Caucasians, et al. It is a tangible category manifested by different alleles, which is what happens over years of breeding with others who share more common ancestors than not.

An abstraction would be to say that because I move to Russia, learn the Russian language and drink vodka, I am therefore “Russian.”

Racial categories have proven useful in medicine and insurance underwriting, to the extent the government has not outlawed their application.
