Probably true though. The kind of people that can understand emergent order are probably at best 15% of the population. But we’re right about how the world works. Right? I’m not talking about specific arguments like business cycle theory, but about the general understanding of how the world works. For example, the kind of person that thinks that central planning works is just objectively wrong. We’re right and people just don’t get it. But how do we convince these people that their understanding about how the world works is wrong and they better step back and let us make the important decisions? They just wouldn’t accept it. The divine right of individualists?

Why cast pearls before swine? It would be great if the world wasn’t full of people whose mental abilities and social preconceptions weren’t based on pack-animal logic, but what are you going to do? They’re just an annoying feature of the planet, like volcanic eruptions and floods. Use them when you can, avoid them when they’re dangerous. I really don’t even care about most of them as individuals, they’re such a bunch of boring dolts.

You know, a system of government that overrides the will of the majority. I actually think corporatist capitalism doesn’t do a bad job at that. A society run by big business lobbyists is capable of maintaining freer markets than a democratic one. On the other hand, in Liechtenstein the people actually vote for free markets. You posted that video of Hans-Adam II the other day. They have a culture of libertarianism. That would be the best system. The example of Liechtenstein suggests that a free market system can exist due to the right culture, that it’s not all lost because of genetics. Unless Liechtenstein is an enclave of born-that-way individualists. Is individualism hereditary?

Individualism is hereditary, I think; but good legal norms can breed themselves into a culture and will be protected by people with a status to uphold relating to those norms. Thus Germanic tribal law, which is pretty libertarian, even though Germans are not genetically predisposed to be anarchists or anything.
I just realize that I am never going to make a different anywhere except in my own, direct life so I don’t really give a damn about all of it. It’s just a condition of reality, not subject to my influence and not worth the energy.
A highly privatized corporate or monarchical state in an atmosphere of contract and tort norms can have fairly libertarian organizations, especially in the broader economic sense - Singapore, for example. I do think that nation-states are going to fall and be replaced with some kind of corporatocracy; I welcome the change. In some ways it will be a culmination of the plutocratic government we had going in the late 19th century, before the Progressives wrecked everything with their moralizing and democracy.
