Is this a subtle form of the fallacy of division? Or the fallacy of composition?
Basically it’s ignoring the other laws of the universe besides gravity, thus effectively claiming that gravity is the only law of the universe.
Mm, I’m not sure if its either of those fallacies. Specifically, the gravity in that example is a straw man. Gravity doesn’t say things move down, it says they are pulled towards mass. Similarly, when people say the free marketers are wrong because the minimum wage doesn’t always cause employment are also attacking a straw man (hopefully).
Ah, good point. You’re right, the strawman fallacy works better there. For some reason, I wasn’t thinking about that one.
