On the news: Osama bin Laden is dead

“Killing Osama bin Laden: Priceless.”

Trillions is an actual price. It’s got 12 zeroes.

Can you bring them back?

Look, UBL met with CIA in July of 2001, just 2 months prior to 9/11. At the time, he was getting dialysis at a hospital in Qatar, I believe. The mujahideen in Afghanistan were armed, trained and funded by CIA. One of the largest training sites where they met was called al-Qaeda or “The Base” - there’s footage of UBL rallying the troops at al-Qaeda. CIA referred to the group of mujahideen who frequented al-Qaeda as… al-Qaeda. As far as I’ve read, they never referred to themselves as “al-Qaeda.” There is no al-Qaeda, there’s just an intelligence shorthand for a group of mujahideen fighters who were associated with UBL.

Taliban is closely affiliated with Pakistani ISI which, in turn, is closely affiliated with CIA. The Taliban didn’t even matter in Afghan life until the late 1990’s. The whole thing is a big ruse. There is no Taliban in terms of a truly grassroots, pro-hardline-Sharia movement within Afghanistan or even Pakistan. Hardline Sharia is an alien transplant into these cultures, especially the Afghans. These are games being played by the Brzezinski types who are convinced that they’re so much smarter than all the rest of us that they can get away with anything.

Conza, I was playing off of Libertyandlife’s listing of the costs

Yes this is exactly my view… It is quite disgusting to see people celebrating this. the death of this guy is only going to lead the government to say that troops now need to stay in order to defend people from retaliation.

Also, on the news last night they were interviewing this guy that repeatedly said, “we have beat them at their own game!” Well what ‘game’ is that? terrorism?

Since when does the USA government respect Sharia law?

Your avatar has cursed me! I’m now using it as my Skype icon at work because that’s usually my expression when talking with my co-workers. I also think of it every time I want to face palm, which is extremely frequent. Thank a lot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe Obama finally has achived something he can be proud of?

It’s kinda funny because we didn’t work with Pakistan on this op at all. Then again, I suppose it was wiser to not work them.

Either way, Obama has his second term now, so hurray.

I just can’t believe nobody embedded Team America’s national anthem… is there no room for sardonism?

The whole fiasco with people cheering in the streets reminds me of the movie adaption of 1984 at the 2 minutes hate speech. Difference being of course that 2 minutes hate was filled with screeches and anger.

The nice twist on it here is Emmanuel Goldstein is dead so everyone is cheering. But at the same time The Brotherhood isn’t dead, they still claim the fictional organization “Al Qaida” exists, though all one has to do to see it doesn’t is look at its own wikipedia page. I think Lew Rockwell was asking who the next Goldstein would be, I’d probably guess it’s just going to remain Al Qaida as a whole. OBL himself could only live for so long, but this vague notion of a terrorist super-organization from james bond can last forever and be used as a scapegoat for anything as long as everyone believes it.

Any time there is a terrorist attack, Al Qaida will be there!

One question that hasn’t been asked yet: Why did the |33t Navy Seals shoot to kill instead of shoot to disable? It’s not as if they weren’t capable of doing so.

*shrug

Starting since 2001, the Western political system and media - particularly in the US and UK - have entered a kind of weird Twilight Zone. Nobody asks obvious questions anymore. My conspiracy theory is that The Powers that Be have been plotting and scheming, weaving and webbing for many years and the grand drama is playing out now… since 2001. I think a one world empire was supposed to have been founded last year at the Copenhagen summit but that fell through when somebody torpedoed the conference with the release of the CRU emails just a few weeks prior. I think that threw a monkey wrench in this whole Twilight Zone production. There were an amazing number of oil-industry accidents during 2010 which I believe were retaliation from Copenhagen-accord loyalists against whoever defected on the Copenhagen-accord and published the CRU emails. It will be interesting to see what they unleash on us now but I think they’ve gone off-script.

I suggest watching ‘Soldiers of Conscience.’ It talks about how the United States military tries to limit soldiers’ morality when they are at war. Soldiers are taught not to think about the ethics or morality when shooting at the ‘enemy’. They are taught to shoot without thinking about ethics, shooting is taught to be a reflexive action. Soldiers are no longer taught ‘shoot to injure’, they are taught: shoot to kill!

Burying at sea is perfectly acceptable in Islam and makes sense if you want his burial place not to be a shrine. However is you are so conspiracy minded then nothing will conviince you.

Nope, doesn’t hold up to scrutiny… they could have kept the body in the fridge for a while, long enough to allow at least five independent journalists etc. to view the body (as per Eric Margolis’ suggestion) and take a DNA sample home to their own people. UBL was the motivation for the multi-trillion dollar US wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, the PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act, the Dept. of Homeland Security, the TSA and on and on. There is no possible explanation for tossing the body overboard in less than 24 hours. It’s laughably transparent.

It’s classic misdirection. The power elite says: Argue amongst yourselves about this Osama nonsense. Ignore everything else.

I would if I only knew how to.

Well after all the dead Muslims and FBI instrusions into Mosques its hard to believe that suddenly the US gov’t wishes to respect Islam in some way. But I would concede that consistency is silly to expect from any group as powerful as the US gov’t.
