Well I conceded that trade can occur without people being generally aware and respectful of private property (capitalism), and that’s somewhat debatable; but it’s mostly semantics. Can passing food around the dinner table be considered exchange, for example?
What’s undeniable however is that capitalism solidifies such interaction, and it is much harder to get the full value of your product back when you and the consumer don’t both formalize the exchange. Rip-offs are much easier, to say the least, and one can produce a lot without being rewarded anything. Again, the case where the would-be capitalist is reluctant in investing into something he can’t sell, and can only benefit from it as much as someone who didn’t do anything to create it.
