“Parasitic”, properly defined, encompasses the behavior of a much wider array of animals than just what we typically consider (tapeworms, for example). Hoppe addresses this in a series of talks which Nielsio (IIRC) began to transcribe. I can try to dig it out if you really want.
A human fetus, rather than being a third party invader, is a part of the same body that it resides in.
I agree that it is more like division than an “outside invader” but I don’t see how that changes the relationship of dependence. If it were merely a part of my body, I would have the right to rid myself of it, just like chopping off my finger. It is a potential life though, so given a potential means for another to take guardianship of it, as some researchers are attempting to use a pig’s uterus to birth humans, I can “evict” the fetus but not maliciously harm it.
Skyler, I didn’t see that paper before and instantly identified a problem or two with it, but I will report after reading it all.
You have been working on this for months? You joined my FB page, that I pretty much let anyone join? You checked with an attorney friend? OMG ROFL hahahahahahahahahaha! [/insult censored/]
I set it up months ago when your incessant whining and disingeniuous argumentation was getting on my nerves. It only took like half an hour to do. Yeah, I mentioned it to my friend when we were hanging out because you never know with irrational civil law. Post again and we’ll see who has the last laugh. There’s no freedom worth fighting for that you aren’t able to proclaim to the world. I mean, you wouldn’t just say this crap because you think you are hiding anonymously online right?
I recommend you both put this ‘debate’ into perspective. do you have common ground? exactly what is at stake here? ask yourselves ‘do I need to do any more than simply state my case and respond to the others relevant criticisms of my case?’ This thrashing about could be done privately.( or not at all)
I tried to have a private conversation with him. He only has hatred for me.
Well that’s the end of that then.
I will probably keep asking you questions, when I think of them. You make the most sense, so lend me your opinion!
What about cyber crime? Would you consider that as break-and-entering? (Stealing sensitive information) I know that libertarians, like I, don’t really believe in intellectual “property”, so how can you resolve cyber crime such as phishing, online scams, impersonation, etc?
If you call your neighbor and tell them that their house is on fire (and it’s not), which causes your neighbor to miss an important interview, would you consider that as a felony?
What about stalking - real life and on the net? Threatening messages/letters? How will you handle these situations?
When I think of more I will ask you, but i’m sure this is not the end of it!!
Olovetto,
Also, can you justify war/aggression? For example, when a nation is starving because of food shortage and/or polluted water, does it have the “right” to invade neighboring nations to acquire the necessities for own goods?
Didn’t Hitler once stated that a nation should be able to feed/sustain itself (a reason for going to war)? I heard it from another libertarian, but i forgot his name. Do you think he’s right?
Again, I am not a fascist nor do I like Hitler, I am a libertarian. I just would like to know your opinion on this.
In my opinion, there will always be war, in the beginning of time to the end of time.
Before you ask, blackmail would not be considered illegal.
What about cyber crime? Would you consider that as break-and-entering? (Stealing sensitive information)
There’s some finer points to this, but basically hacking modifies the physical integrity of servers’ storage so it is a tort.
I know that libertarians, like I, don’t really believe in intellectual “property”, so how can you resolve cyber crime such as phishing, online scams, impersonation, etc?
Those all sound like fraud to me.
If you call your neighbor and tell them that their house is on fire (and it’s not), which causes your neighbor to miss an important interview, would you consider that as a felony?
How long could it take him to realize his own house isn’t on fire? Anyhow, it sounds like it is a crime. On this, blackmail, and other things, you should read Defending the Undefendable.
What about stalking - real life and on the net? Threatening messages/letters? How will you handle these situations?
If you are trespassing and/or making threats of violence that could be a crime. Taking pictures of you undressing from my own window isn’t. Threatening A that I will tell B some information is not a crime.
Wait, what? What do you mean by blackmail wouldn’t be illegal?
Also, can you justify war/aggression? For example, when a nation is starving because of food shortage and/or polluted water, does it have the “right” to invade neighboring nations to acquire the necessities for own goods?
Nations don’t have rights, only individuals. Only defensive wars can be justified. Your example is highly unrealistic. No, it isn’t justified to steal if you are starving, but everyone probably would anyway.
Didn’t Hitler once stated that a nation should be able to feed/sustain itself (a reason for going to war)? I heard it from another libertarian, but i forgot his name. Do you think he’s right?
I think Hitler pushed some autarchic agendas like this but I forget. A nation may be able to survive that way, but it would certainly be better off by partaking in division of labor.
Again, I am not a fascist nor do I like Hitler, I am a libertarian. I just would like to know your opinion on this.
In my opinion, there will always be war, in the beginning of time to the end of time.
The only way to end war is to kill the myth of statism. Funding wars is expensive without first stealing the funds to fuel it. The subtle violence of taxation needs to stop before war does. Things like slavery died pretty rapidly. I think we’ll either all die in a nuclear holocaust or people will drop the myth and we will be living a much more peaceful existence in a few hundred years.
edit:
Wait, what? What do you mean by blackmail wouldn’t be illegal?
Read the book I linked. There is a chapter on blackmail. I’m going to go watch basketball, get back to you later.
And what about insider trading? Would you consider that a crime?
And more recently, what about naked short selling?
nothing wrong with insider trading, it actually helps the market. Although you could be accused of breach of contract if you were giving away trade secrets.
You might consider this next question rhetorical, but I’d like your opinion anyways - although, being on this site shows that all of us here are quite informed about what is going on - and what we’re heading towards.
What do you see for the US, economically and politcally, in the upcoming years (2-5years)? Europe? Asia? The rest of the world? Everyone, please lend me your thoughts.
(I think I already know all the answers, but I still like people to share their thoughts, just in case I have missed something)
How are you preparing? Is there an organization for people who are seeking assistance?
Are you worried? Scared? (I am very worried).
FYI - I read the piece by Block - excellent! I totally agree with him!
Can someone answer my questions, please?
A lot are pessimistic. I think we’ll basically just see stagnation for the most part. All the monetary policy is basically trying to stop any corrections from happening, but whatever capital is still in tact will remain in tact. There will probably be some “really big and awesome ty so much obama” financial reforms that will “save” the country from a future debt crises… but all the crises will be hidden as best they can, and we’ll pay for them massively but slowly.
This is all to the detriment of the underclass. Those who managed to get out of working as a cashier will be just fine.
In the absense of the police force, how can you defend against violent groups, such as the Mafia?
What about animal rights? I’m not sure if I asked this question already or not. If you watched the animal channel, you will see that animal abuse does exist in a free society. Can that be justify? (Dog fighting, fish fighting, etc).
Hire your own mafia.
There are a good number of people that do not believe that animals have rights and are instead property.
Can acts of revenge be justify? If someone burned down your house, do you have the right to burn down their house as well? (No police force)
