Politics and economics are not mentioned really, and not much detail is revealed about how their society works. However, the original series did not have the same political economy as the later shows, that seems to have been added later.
The only bit of info we are given on star fleet is that it is a “peace keeping and humitarian armada.” Thats it.
Star trek is incompatible with an anti-state theme, but they seemed to deliberately mainstream its politics.
