“Home ownership” … isn’t. Stop paying your property taxes, for example, and “your” property will be sold to someone else, without your permission. This is fundamentally different from, for example, car ownership.
Instead of “home ownership association,” a much more apt metaphor for government is “monopoly landlord of the entire country.”
Purchase price = key money.
Property tax = rent.
Your “purchase” of the house only buys you the privilege of becoming the new tenant (just like key money). As long as you pay your rent (“property tax”), the landlord (government) will allow your continued occupancy. Stop paying your rent and you are evicted. You don’t get a refund on your key money.
The state is the real owner; home “owners” are tenants.
