The US dollar is worth more than Gold to Americans

Sorry, but I need to interject this: are you out of your fucking mind?

It’s only “worth more” than gold because of its legal tender status. The fact that the Fed can inexpensively reproduce it boosting its supply beyond all imagination means it is NOT going to remain valuable. The seigniorage the US derives from it depends on other countries actually being willing to use it. Its monopoly is not worth diddly squat if for some reason other countries move from the dollar. So, improve your reasoning.

Thank you. Always open to learn and debate…however, I dont have to agree with you on everything.

I might as well suggest readings to you…but I respect everyone’s intellect.

I still can’t see your point. You just wrote facts. But you did write “worth more”.

I am assuming you are aware that since 1945 until now America enjoys a great advantage due to the dollar international reserve currency status.

I think we both agree it wont last forever…specially since they print a lot of it.

This was only a matter of fate. The rest of the world economy was completely obliterated by WWII, so naturally American currency would be favourable in the pax-Americana era.

How do you know this? In other words, how do you know the cause is “due to the dollar international reserve… status”. Other reasons have been given already such as the U.S. wasn’t destroyed after ww2 and that was an advantage. Another could be that the u.s. didn’t socialize it’s economy as intrusively as other countries and thereby its price system added entrepeunaur advantage. Another could be the natural resources of the u.s. gave an advantage in cost of mining, harvesting timber, etc… (as opposed to Japan not having nearly the same amount of natural resources or some other countries, etc, etc…

I’m sure there are other reasons and none can be pinned down as the sole cause. What you say is speculative but the dollar status isn’t necessarily the cause.

Of course…I never said it was due only to a single cause…I am just discussing one of the causes.

Then it’s not a cause.

Also, the dollar as a reserve currency can be explained as not a “great advantage” but it’s great demise. And I have no idea what you’re trying to prove, discuss, or simply state. I don’t even know if you are trying to prove anything. I don’t know why you even started this thread. Do you? What was your original point?

edit: I ask because I think it would be helpful if you clarified your original post. Maybe you could restate what’s on your mind to avoid the talking past each other.

Pardon my words but I am not interested in discussing or clarifiying anything to you. I have been discussing, debating with many other smart guys here and I have to say that none have been so confused about my post than you.

have a good one.

they are your posts. i was trying to read them. asked for clarification, but…

well have a good one.
