Perhaps as far as naming systems go, we could adopt a system similar to the commies. Like they are Marxist-Leninists could we be Misesians or Rothbardians in general with a specific extension? For example Rothbardian-Hoppeans or Misesian-Rothbardian-Hoppeans or Misesean-Hoppeans. They may have gotten nomenclature right.

Reason and CATO may not be “Perfect Austrian” organizations but they do far more good than harm in the world. I think that the libertarian movement needs them and I have supported both of these organizations with my money ( I have also donated to the Ludwig von Mises Institute). I have also donated to HACER. All of these organizations work to push back the state. They have different strategies and slightly different views on specific topics. But the basic belief in freedom and commitment to liberty is the same. One thing I appreciate about CATO in particular is that they provide libertarian materials in multiple languages. Liberty cannot be achieved by English-Speakers alone. The freedom movement MUST reach out to speakers of other languages. I have great respect for the scholars at LVMI and those working for liberty at Reason and CATO. I find this Washington-Libertarian - Auburn-Libertarian feud frustrating. Our enemies are not at Reason or CATO - they are in Congress and the White House.

Nonsense. Not only did several reason writers support the Iraq war, but a few supported the police state that followed 911 as well (Cathy Young). Meanwhile over at Cato, they promote central banking and write essays about how awesome Lincoln was for killing Southerners. They fully support the state. Try posting some anarchist material on reason’s comment boards and see how well it goes over.
Cato did right an alright article on the CRA and their bashing of universal healthcare and health care today is enlightening.
You can get bashing of universal healthcare from the Republicans - that hardly makes them allies.
Agreed. They support freedom as a potentially workable government policy rather than as uninstitutionalizable justice. I view them as basically the same as cookie cutter “freedom-loving conservatives,” albeit more intellectual.

I was thinking however, we should make sure we have lots of players, to keep the thread from disappearing. And we might want to lay down some rules. Such as no flaming (looks bad for LvMI if we do so).
But yeah, it would be cool to do this. I have a bunch of activity driven ideas. Like a Wikipedia drive, where we target articles that don’t show the libertarian/anarchist/Misesian/Austrian view, and we collectively write material and update Wikipedia with our best sources, links and information.
All this is contingent on having people interested in spending 5 minutes a week, helping promote the cause.

The reason why the CATO folks like Hayek is simply star power. Hayek won the Nobel Prize in Economics, this is the same prize Krugman has won. This alone should say it all.
I personally feel that CATO and its publicist arm Reason Magazine are drifting farther and farther away from the economic system based on Property Rights and Non-Aggression.

The great thing about being a Rockwellian, is that it encompasses Rothbardianism, Misesianism and Paulianism.
The difference is, Lew is a man of action. He is an an-cap working FOR LIBERTY.

I originally meant the comment to give Lew his due. Without Lew, I don’t think there is a Ron Paul Revolution last year, which means a lot of us might not have made it here, if here even existed without Lew (LvMI).
For a lot of the libertarian elite, he’s the guy who helps make it happen. And I don’t even know him personally or offline, where I imagine of course his presence is that much more important.
Thus far, I’m cool with Hoppe and Rothbard. Paul and Rockwell. Long’s older stuff is good (when he sticks to historical fact, not moralizing and meandering).
