What is most saddening is that they oppose something too, and their attempt to correct it is completely futile – maybe even the opposite of what they actually want.
Running a cartoon is going to overturn and make right the fiddling with Social Security! Some politician is out there for them is going to come to rescue and make it right like they want it, huh? Deep down they know that is never coming, that few even know what they are talking about, and that they have no certainty of the correct management of it. They only know bad boys exist to get frustrated over – libertarians (none of whom will ever get in office) that want to “privatize” government handouts that will ruin their lives and make misery.
Running a cartoon is going to make people realize how silly vouchers are and politicians will heed their advice and manage the public schools with the proper amount of tax money and intelligent education. Public schooling will become less profit and greed-based and more communitarian – leading to proper progressive values and equal wealth. Politicians will heed to the minority races and help them into succeed where the market (the capitalist vouchers) fail. It never happens, but it’s certainly worth a try.
Some free marketer, also irrelevant to the political establishment, is upsetting their idea about roads. All those private roads that empty their wallets (because of greed, naturally) will be destroyed and returned to normalcy as soon as the politicians see this cartoon. Or worse: as soon as voters see this cartoon and realize what ridiculous notions libertarians are printing (to be ignored), they will rise up and vote for some glorious man that will pave the earth with the most beautiful infrastructure ever seen. The greed-based private and semi-publicly built road construction will be curtailed by a progressive politician. In this logic, the progressive politician overcomes his insatiable hunger for revenues and turns down opportunities to simply “correct capitalism with market-correcting policy” in order to leech off the Road Runner to his Wiley Coyote in big business and then (in conservative-style logic) a glorious golden age of respect for what is Natural will return. But not that natural: you can’t just consume anything you want or oppose taxes like the primitive neanderthals. The state knows directly the balance between nature that is good for all and nature that is bad. And our cartoon reflects this!
Next, the state will realize that logging contracts in national forests are evil. Of course, realizing their error… the state will discontinue to allow this immediately. Nevermind that it never did and libertarians never changed anything one way or another. The state, which is ALWAYS the naturally enemy of industry (!!!), will come to the rescue returning the forests to pristine, trash-free, tree-filled wonders that will never be threatened again by undemocratic legislation, temporary contracts, etc. It will for once take a break from being a tax revenue eating machine and return the forests to the wildebeasts and antelope to run free at no profit to the State and its unrelenting growth.
And of course, the EPA will continue it’s glorious course of stopping pollution and auto emissions since the Nixon administration. The constitution be damned, the auto emissions “standards” will always be in control of the people and not big industry and elite planners – as long regulatory agencies exist. If we print more sarcastic cartoons, we might be able to move up to the house and ask the master if we can have more of his table scraps. We could move into the Washington DC studio apartment on the beltway next to the guys that write for Cato Institute.
