First, I’ll be dead by 2211. Second, I’d rather be the richest man in 2011. I’d then be able to invest that money in businesses I’d like to see grow, and do other things (fix my car, pay for school, etc). Given some time I’d start my own business.
Bingo.
So are you granting an extension of the person’s life for 200 years? If so you’d have to be a complete moron to be the poorest person in the year 2211. Old and dumb means your productivity probably sucks, so you’re going to be worthless whether there’s a free market or not.
Investing $100 per month at a modest rate of 12% over 200 years results in $5,403,587,879,688.26. That’s around the price of a Starbucks coffee each day, or about the cost of a Happy Meal.
Isn’t the world suppose to end in 2012?
I don’t see that this is part of the question. At what time would you rather be alive, given the conditions?
Saw the answer to my question after posting…
Difficult question. In 200 years the education and understanding of the average man may be well more advanced than it will be in just one month. Since my personal productivity is tied to my knowledge, I think I’d be giving up way too much of an advantage to those who have enjoyed free market education over the span of 200 years. So potentially I could very well be considered a moron in 2211. Poor and dumb is not the way to go. I’d take the money in 2011 and live with the fact that my great great great grandchildren will have a really good life in 2211.
2211 for sure. I would rather be broke and in 2010 than a 16th century King.
given the current rate of expansion the state is going through, with little to no shift in policy that I can see, even on the horizon…well, I’m going ot say rich in 2011.
If I knew, for sure, the state wasn’t going to be a problem, I’d say broke in 2211, as long as I could bring a few family members, scientists, and friends.
Scientists?
