There are a few broken links (like the sitemap at the bottom of the page), some of which may have been broken for a while. More importantly, however, is the default font for posts:
It’s a bit small, and in Safari (at least for Windows Vista) the ridiculous text smoothing makes it very difficult to read. I realize that the font can be changed in the user preferences, but someone who has just stumbled upon the site wouldn’t know that (and wouldn’t have any user preferences section, either!).
My main problem with the links is that when not clicked or hovered over they’re indiscernable from text. perhapse underlining or changing the text color to something different would be better.
First, this forum is really excellent. I assume it is a proprietary design. It’s very clever.
Some small issues.
The pagination at the bottom left of each thread, would be very handy repeated at the top of each thread as well. It’s a lot of scrolling to get to the pagination. Floating it to the right would be consistent with most forum software, but not entirely necessary.
The print layout in the forum really stinks. A print style sheet would be a nice bonus.
An email goes out on each post to a thread, even when, say I post to it, I get an email telling me that. Those extra emails seem redundant to me. It would be very cool if the option to receive daily or weekly digest emails was available. It would cut down on mail load and reduce inbox creep for forumers.
Thanks again for this excellent forum. I like it a lot!
Actually, I think this theme is more or less perfect :D.
The only thing, functionally, that needs work is the small text, but that’s usually a huge problem with bigger sites & a bigger audience anyways, due the diversity of browsers being used.
Also, imo, I think for the forum background though (the white area between the top navigation and the bottom footer info) should be a light grey instead, possibly either #CCCCCC (which might be a bit darker grey, and might conflict with the rest of the site’s pallette) or maybe #EFEFEF or #FAFAFA might do the job.
The only reason i suggest that is that often, black text on white is like staring at a lightbulb for an hour. A lighter grey would ease the text’s effect on the eyes, methinks.
Be even nicer if there were REL tags in the header, so the browser’s site navigation buttons work…
Also, the editor behaves strangely sometimes. E.g., if I select a bunch of text and hit delete (e.g., to avoid quoting the entire message I’m replying to), the cursor goes to the beginning of the buffer - I expect it to be where the deleted text used to be.
