About the new name, the move, and the password email

This forum was the Mises Community. It is now Free Capitalists, at forum.freecapitalists.org.

The name is the only thing that changed. On 20 August 2026 the archive came off the old Community Server software, moved onto Discourse, and reopened for posting after years of being frozen and read-only.

What came across:

  • every account, with its username
  • every topic and post
  • private messages
  • old links, which redirect to the same content here. archive.freecapitalists.org now points at this site as well.

What did not come across: passwords. Forum software stores them in a form that cannot be converted between platforms, so there was no way to bring them. Everyone who wants to log in has to set a new password once.

That is why some of you are getting an email from a name you may not recognize, saying “set a password” when you never asked for one. It is not a phishing attempt and it is not a sign that anyone tried to break into your account. It goes out to accounts that have been here since the old software and have no password on the new one.

If you would rather not use the link in the email, you can start a reset yourself from the login form on this site.

If you do nothing, nothing is lost. Your account and your posts stay exactly where they are.

Replies here are welcome, including “this looks broken” reports.
