I was thinking that since the dollar is going to crash in a year or two, people are going to need a quick source for money untill a new currency is established ( god forbid ) to trade goods. And I thought to myself…
" Why not coins?"
If the value of the USD is 3 cents, than a dollar in pennies is worth more. So why not use US coins as banking and trade units. And we can determine standard by weight or spot price, instead of a molested state measurement.
And considering most coins are alloys, i would see spot price as a bit confusing. A local bank(s), if most people were to exchange dollars for cents, would spring up to start facilitate trade among the town when we finally collapse. This would be ideal to start now untill the collapse, so the system can be smoothed out. However the difficulty in this would be for people to abandon the idea that pennies and coins are a fraction of a USD and are hence worthless when the opposite is true. Businesses would not except weights of coins, but they can except the dollar value of coins, a loop hole through legal tender laws. But no rational person is going to except $50 in coins. If towns all over were to do this they could avoid a massive panic, all though times will still be rough.
Does anybody think this is a good idea? I can only see individuals doing this to liquidate dollars while they still can, but not business except single small businesses.
