The top 10% of Americans pay almost all of the taxes. Most Americans pay little, or no taxes at all.
Americans won’t wake up until foreigners stop subsidizing them. Then they will have to pay their way, and sacrifice their upward mobility for socialism.
Then it will get very interesting.
I don’t think that’ll be too far in the future. Nobody can afford to keep on subsidizing them for much longer.
Quick, you go find a seller or large amounts of camo netting and I’ll go lobby for $600,000.
(On another note, I wonder how much money would have been spent covering up a hammer and sickle shaped building).
In terms of revenue to the federal government, you are correct. That doesn’t mean that most Americans still slave away for the tax system unnecessarily. Don’t forget that even the poorest families have to pay 10% federal income taxes plus federal payroll taxes, state and local income taxes, property taxes if they own property, sales taxes if their state and/or local government imposes sales taxes, and capital gains taxes if they have some kind of IRA or 401(k).
