I have been pondering this question and want to see what you guys think.
In an anarchist society would one need an ID to get from place to place. What would security be like zone to zone? My best answer is that if bussiness did this people would go back to government. Seeing it as a better option.
This is also one of the major things keeping my minarchist friend from being an anarchist. So a good response would help alot.
I can’t think of many individuals or businesses that would require other individuals to carry ID cards, but identification might sometimes be necessary - but hey? Which country doesn’t already require citizens to carry or show ID? I mean the UK’s introducing a horrific general ID card plan.
That was rambled, but what I’m saying is: if businesses lose customers due to asking for ID, then they will go out of business. If consumers don’t want to be identified, then the businesses will try everything they can to move to a business model more favourable to consumers. It goes both ways, if firms ID clients, or employees, then employees may be discouraged from working there.
But I am speculating. All that can be said is that for sure there will be far less need for ID in a free society than in a statist society.
I don’t think you would need an identification to get from place to place. Why would you? In an anarchist society, there wouldn’t be countries with borders. Without government’s artificial barriers, the only distinctions between places would be who owns the property being transitioned. There wouldn’t be zones as such other than the boundaries of one’s own land. If someone wanted you to remove yourself from their property, they could ask you to, but I think it would be an act of aggression to demand some sort of identification.
As for transitioning geographic areas, the means of travel would be private - the vehicles and the pathways. Again, it wouldn’t be in a road owners interests to demand identification, because people generally find that offensive and would use a different, competing path to accomplish their goal of getting from one place to another.
There could still be uses for identification, as in verifying means of payment, or employee IDs if an employer with lots of employees wanted to make sure certain employees stayed out of certain areas of the company. Even there, I think people would find that burdensome ands would tend to move away from jobs that required that sort of security, but maybe not. Anyway, it would all be voluntary, that’s the major point of an anarchist society, right?
