I know several individuals on this site have qualms about Rep. Ron Paul, but does anyone know if there are any articles/video etcetera addressing Anarcho-Capitalism?
Trust me, I don’t view him as a Deity, I just would like to hear his opinion on this, if he has one for the public.
I have Freedom Under Siege by Ron Paul and I didn’t expect to read anything like that from someone in Congress. He hates the government to the fullest extent without being an anarchist.
Well, to admit that he is an anarchist would be political suicide, as beefheart said. I’d be willing to bet that if he was standing in front of a shiny red button that would instantly end the government, he would push it.
I also believe him when he says he isn’t. He voted to ban partial birth abortion at the Federal level, in violation of the Constitution (one case I agree it’s okay to violate the Constitution). He also favors spending at times (border control, which I also agree with).
4.05 - “What do you say to people who advocate for self government, rather than a return to the Constitution?”
Ron Paul: “Great. Fine. That is really what my goal is.”
And as such the people here on this site, who call him a statist and demur him - believing they are holier than thou, are pathetic in comparison. That is - if being against the state and contributing to the movement is your benchmark. No-one has single handedly done more / been the cause of creating anarcho-capitalists than he has in the last few years.
He guides people to Austrian Economics and Libertarianism. To the Ludwig Von Mises Institute, Mises & Rothbard, LewRockwell and others. They and others here do the rest.
I never would have found LvMI without Dr. Paul. Although I (now) disagree with his views on limited government, I wouldn’t have even given anarchism a chance without being exposed to his constitutionalist message. I consider myself anarcho-capitalist, but I have nothing but respect and admiration for the man. He is the only honest man in a pit of vipers.
That being said, if he runs for office in 2012, I wont vote for him or anyone else. I am finished with the political process.
Yes, I too once believed in the US Constitution, but I now consider myself an Anarcho-Capitalist.
With that being said, if he ran for Pres. in 2012, I would be obliged to register and vote for this man. He’s the last bastion of hope for this country. Besides, if Ron Paul became President, don’t you think intellectuals/ individuals alike would be exposed to Anarcho-Capitalism?
I like the guy, but I hope he doesn’t become president in 2012; or anyone from the Mises crowd. The most he could do as a president would be to veto 99.9% of the bills that pass his desk, and make the effort to do away with most of the federal agencies, and use the bully pulpit. The educational and philosophical hasn’t been laid enough to the extent where he would be an effective reformer, and unfortunately you’d need an individual with an authoritarian streak in order to even begin to make a dent in the federal government. That and most people think short-term so without the electorate having at least an understanding of the medicine that the American economy has to take, well he’d be a one term president.
