I have a hypothesis why economists are so eager to imitate the methods of physics. I consider it no wonder that men whose science, viz., economics, is so “pathetically” soft would envy the men whose sciences are so “gloriously” hard, like physics or even their more abstract cousins like mathematics and computer science. Moreover, physics allows men to construct tall buildings, long bridges, mighty rockets pointed straight up, and powerful machine guns that shoot copious amounts of bullets. Economics, on the other hand, merely supplies a low foundation for social cooperation, counsels peace and friendship between nations, and demands that everyone humbly serve their fellow man in his capacity as a consumer, that workers serve the entrepreneurs, etc. The sexual connections are all over the place here.
