I don’t know much about the history of Bahrain but this is just sickening.
I’ve seen enough ‘peaceful’ and ‘popular’ protests in my own country to avoid jumping to conclusions. Things aren’t always s as they seem. Protests are not always spontaneous and ‘reform’ not always mean freedom. Above all, violence is not always to be condemned.
How do you know it’s real?
What are your sources? Do you know anyone there that can verify it?
Bahrain, one of the better developed, relatively liberal in civil rights, and prosperous Arab countries is seeing a protest? Why? Bahrainis largely do not have to endure the similarly indignant life that many Tunisians and Egyptians were undergoing.
I hate to say it, but this is a rich people’s revolt. This is a bunch of Mercedes and Audi owners taking to the streets. Much harder to feel sorry for them, even though the repression is all the more brutal.
Fortunately most of us here have nothing to do with or know nothing about Baharain, or the troubles that may or may not exist in that country. So there really is no need to speculate or get worked up into some self righteous frenzy.
The same goes with Egypt or Tunisia
Prateek can you share some sources that show this? I would like to know more about the country. However, assuming it’s true, sounds like you are saying that “rich people” aren’t allowed to protest… Does your threshold for empathy only lie within the really poor?
WIlliam you are right, I don’t know much about it but it and it’s best not to speculate. But I don’t think I’m engaging in a self righteous frenzy, the report did indicate that even medical personnel and ambulances were shot at by helicopters:
"But even as they fled in headlong panic, a helicopter sprayed gunfire at them and more fell. Paramedics from ambulances that had rushed to the scene darted forward to help the wounded, but they too were shot at. "

Sorry, that was more of a caution sign than an accusation. It is probably a good thing to feel disgust at perciveably insane violent acts. I still cry like a baby everytime I see Bambi’s mom bite the dust, I am just saying don’t read too much into it.

Right, the biggest danger to us is if the U.S. government gets involved/more involved. Whoever wins in these places they will almost certainly be one kind of socialist or another.
