Barack Obama: Nasa must try to make Muslims 'feel good'

I may have misspoken - knee jerk reaction.. I will have to re-read my Islamic history - my humble apologies

No big deal, happens to all of us.

I thought it has already been done: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslim_astronauts

It’s not just this thread. And I read his clarification. He has some hangups from when he was a leftist. That and making the thread topic, doesn’t excuse being wrong about a subject.

It’s not a clear-cut economics question where the correct answer is readily visible. The sociology of political movements is fairly complex, so if you think he is wrong about it I’d rather you both discussed it in a thread (or PMs) explaining why he is wrong.

What does the sociology of political movements have to attributing known Islamic scholarship from over 1000 years ago to a conspiracy by modern progressive leftists?

Nothing I can see, which is why I protested it.

If you can articulate my mistake, I would be happy to take responsibility for it, but I am still unaware what it was.

Will it balance out all the domination, and slaughter to Muslim populations? Probably not. Politicians are such conscious hypocrites, and only succeed by seducing their unconscious populations. They’d reach out to the Muslim world only by withdrawing all their troops and weapons. That would get their attention.

I’m referring to cultural Marxism, which is what he considers responsible for the positive light non-Western contributions are painted in with western circles and which arguably is a strain of thought very prevalent in modern academia. He can correct me if I am wrong. So you could’ve asked him to elaborate instead. He obviously thought it had bearing on the discussion…

Cultural marxism is a truly a despicable doctrine, because people in the Middle East and in China DID IN FACT have many achievements, but these ideas were supressed or monopolized by the brutally nonliberal governments (all of them bureacratic socialist states), resulting in the stifling of transforming knowledge into economic growth because of the destruction of entrepreneurship. Yet cultural marxism tries to use achievments supressed by these governments to exhonerate these governments (because they were noncapitalistic) of the blame for economic stagnation, and pretends that lack of economic growth in the East was the fault of Europe. (Of course, Europe is no sugur itself, due to past and present popularity of nonliberal doctrines, but the concentration of power in Europe was less than in the East, allowing technology to not be suppressed in the end.)

On the countries in the modern middle east the main opponents of cultural marxism:

David Landes. 1998. The Wealth and Poverty of Nations. New York,W.W. Norton.

Wittfogel, Karl. [1957] 1967. Oriental Despotism: A Study of Total Power. New Haven: Yale University Press.

Cipolla, Carlo. 1965. Guns, Sails, & Empires. New York,Pantheon.

Lewis, Bernard. [1960] 1970. The Arabs in Eclipse. The Economic Decline of Empires. Edited by Cipolla, Carlo. London,Menthuen & Company.

[There is lots of other literature, but most addressed China, not the Middle East.]

Nice strawmanning liberty student. If you have issues with me, take them up on my page. I can answer any queries you have.

If you post false information in a thread, you will be asked to defend it in a thread. If you don’t like that, don’t start discussions.

As far as strawmanning you, I simply pointed out what you admitted about yourself. You have an irrational bias towards the left that is a reaction to your own time as an ignorant leftist.

If you see something substantively incorrect with my post, indicate it specifically, and where apologies are due, they will be made. But I don’t see them just because they are asserted.

Islam facilitated the scientific and social advancements that continue today. It is inaccurate to say that there was ‘‘less opposition’’. Seeking knowledge was and still remains the foremost goal muslims are encouraged to strive towards. Many Hadeeths (prophetic sayings) and Quranic verses implore muslims to seek knowledge and to ponder on what Allah has created. Islam in fact highly encouraged knowledge and education which paved the way to new discoveries. here are a few hadeeths and quranic verses that do so..

…The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. - Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1631

‘‘the ink of a scholar is worth a thousand times more than the blood of a martyr’’ --Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Prophets saying is extremely significant especially to muslims who fully appreciate how highly regard martyrs are in Islam.

In fact the very first revelation that Muhammad recieved through the angel gabriel was ‘‘Read!’’, to which Muhammad (PBUH) replied ‘’ I am unlettered’'.( this was repeated to more times). Gabriel that revealed to him…“Recite: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot. Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous Who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not.” (Quran, 96:1-5)

who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any flaws?

‘‘Are, then, they who are bent on denying the truth not aware that the heavens and the earth were [once] one single entity, which We then parted asunder? – and [that] We made out of water every living thing? Will they not, then, [begin to] believe?’’
