Can some one recommend to me a well-written and well-structured introductory textbook in the microeconomic neoclassical tradition and a well-written and well-structured introductory textbook in the macroeconomic neoclassical tradition? Such textbooks would probably appear in the microeconomics 101 course and the macroeconomics 101 course, respectively, at a typical university.
The above, but if you want to get into harder texts, Varian’s textbook on microeconomics is commonly used. I’d recommend Robert Ekelund’s Private Markets and Public Choice as a good synoptic on neoclassical econ. He’s got an “Austrian” bent to him, as well.
I don’t think Samuelson is commonly used anymore, certainly much less than it used to be. Mankiw and Krugman are two popular choices. They are actually both well written, and Krugman’s political views are not reflected in the text, it’s pretty standard stuff.
