Best Libertarian Lyrics

Not much to this song, but it’s one of my favorites. Court Martial - Got To Get Out. (Fan page)

Gotta get out of here find a new life
Away from the troubles and fear around us
Gotta get out find a place far away
But there’s nothing around so here we must stay

Gotta get out of here, out of here, out of here
Stand and be heard, they’ll hear if we shout
We don’t wanna die from nuclear fall-out
But we will if our cries are just shut out

(Repeat chorus)

The whole town is leaving we may as well go
Follow our instincts, see where we end up
The youngest around us are crying out
They don’t want to die and so they shout

(Chorus x2)

They don’t give a shit if we live or die
As long as they’re safe in their little shelters
But we can’t afford them and so we campaign
To get something done because they’re insane

(Chorus x3)

The Expelled - Government Policy

Found the answer to the strife
With the promise of a better life.
Hide behind false words, no more.
What the hell do you take us for?

Born to lose then criticised. Unemployed, victimized.
And we’ve got no jobs now. Unemployed, victimized.
We’re the ones, can’t you see? Unemployed, victimized.
You won’t change us so let us be. Unemployed, victimized.

Don’t preach to me of good and bad.
Squandered all the wealth we had.
Laugh and drink and all shake hands.
Too drunk to care for our demands.

(Chorus)

Send police to haunt our streets.
It’s us they’re watching on their beats.
Warn us not to make a stand.
A stick and bible in your hand.

(Chorus)

In the end you’ll make your choice.
Draft us all and then rejoice.
Just sit back and do your worst,
But don’t think we won’t get there first.

(Chorus)

Unemployed, victimized.
Unemployed, victimized.
Unemployed, victimized.
Unemployed, victimized.

Found the answer to the strife
With the promise of a better life.
Hide behind false words, no more.
What the hell do you take us for?

(Chorus)

Icons of Filth - Cut The Crap

Scratch their backs and they’ll stab yours
Show signs of patriotism and they’ll start wars
They shed our inners in the battlefields
They’d shed our outers as the napalm peels
Look around the world
Do you believe what you’re seeing?
It shows their only concern
Is for their welfare and well-being
They couldn’t give a shit
If we live or die
Our flesh means nowt they want victory

Cut the crap and don’t believe 'em
Cut the crap religion
Cut the crap politicians
Cut the fucking crap - now

Religion is exaggerated
Shit life ain’t pre-determined
Life’s what we make it
Are we all gonna die and all go to Gods heaven?
Religion. Lie. Religion. Bribe. Religion. Oppression
There ain’t no heaven
We’re living on it
There ain’t no hell
We’re going through it
There ain’t no God
No heavenly voice
Heaven or hell - make your choice

Cut the crap and don’t believe 'em
Cut the crap religion
Cut the crap politicians
Cut the fucking crap - now

You say
“look at some countries and their lack of freedom”
Then you say
“look at us, we’ve got more freedom”
and you condemn anything contrary
'cos it threatens your ‘freedom’
Do you honestly call that freedom?
Well I say you can’t compare measures of freedom
Because freedom doesn’t come in measures
Freedom is total
Either you got it or you ain’t
We ain’t, they aint, we ain’t, we ain’t we ain’t, they ain’t

Cut the crap and don’t believe 'em
Cut the crap religion
Cut the crap politicians
Cut the fucking crap - now

(Repeat chorus)

I Own Me-

Its gettin thicker than dreadlocks/
they treat us like we’re dread scott/
don’t wanna see the feds pop/
or be the one that they’d stopped/
or get in trouble cause I talked shit to their mascot/
frickin’ busybodies need to go and buy an ascot/
tellin’ me you own me then makin sho’ i’m taxed out/
maxed out, deep in-debted from the easy credit/
that the fed imbedded then they betted it all be copacetic/
if they were the medic but forget it/
the people are gettin’ pissed/
blowin up like some unleaded/
they want control unfettered/
but ya’ll know that smells fetid/
like the craphole that we’re headed/
to if they don’t let me do me/
and you do you/
and all the guns in the gunverment /
won’t amount to a twenty-two /
if they keep on stompin’ on amendment number two/
and we don’t even need you/
take your welfare and your brainwashing free-school/
and ya’ll are so see through; easy to see you is evil/

chorus:
Nobody owns me/
ya’ll haters don’t/
I own me /
so back the fuck off/
(x 2)
I make my own rules/
take my own tools/
you ain’t in my shoes/
no you ain’t get to choose/
I ain’t pay you dues./
I pay 'em for my self/
don’t expect shit from me/
and I ain’t need your help/

and in case you didn’t know/
this song is for the parasites/
the feeders that bleed us and treat us/
like they’re the hand and we’re the dice/
no utopian paradise to be had from any plan/
the world’s too complex for any man to comprehend/
all the supply and again all the demand/
when the few control the view/
their mistakes are multiplied /
the decisions should be ours/
like our bodies. Let’s take back our lives/
Only a slave if you submit/
and ya’ll know I got some fight!/
and this ain’t racist /
its for blacks, whites and asians/
middle eastern people, latinos/
and everyone who wants to be free, so/
we’ll even let it slide if you’re emo/
I never signed no social contract/
I’m about to have to repo/
myself, for my health/
and my wealth/
put your bills back on the shelf/
capitol hill can go to hell/
we should put them punks in jail/
we could live our lives ourselves…/

chorus

So who’s to say Barack Hussein/
knows what’s best for me?/
I knock the man and not the name/
cause in my family tree/
could be husseins so I take aim/
at tyranny times three/
branches that act just/
like geriatric babysitters/
poonannies./
but really you’ll get beat-up/
if you don’t follow their edicts/
there’s a law against living /
year its worse than shariah./
but where can I go if this/
whole world is socialist/
though we know that it failed for the soviets./
Its 1984 people please notice this./
Fuck a tax feeder time to overthrow them tics/
its in the declaration Jefferson wrote the shit/
So choose to be a free man /
governments we’re over it/
governments we’re over it!/

here’s the lyrics:

LYRICS…
It was 1913 when it all began, some high ranking men hatched a secret plan
It seems since then it’s hand made for tyrants, meet the creature born on Jeckyl island
and they tried to sell ya, but I got to tell ya,
the Morgans the warburgs and the Rockerfellers
It’s a war racket through the banking act the same year that they brought in the income tax
and without that the government never had the funds for the bombs and guns to fight WW1
and still today we never learned our lesson
It was the fed that brought on the great depression
and every panic without exception
these days they prefer to call it a recession
We could reject them at the next election but with no deception it’s a true correction
wartime spending it’s a long time standing,
welfare-warfare state expanding
Not a left-right issue that’s a tissue of lies,
the president’s a puppet with his strings disguised
when the people WAKE UP !!!
they demand action
gonna slay the monster like Andrew Jackson
They don’t ask for your taxes and that’s the main thing,
Fascist-Socialist it’s really the same thing
under estimate the masses, that’s your downfall,
It’s not an astro-turf townhall
They’ve got the gall… let’s call it FASCIALISM ,
Nazi Pelosi, Obamunism
It’s a joke, I hope you noticed something,
the auto bailout is cash for clunkers
seeing green shoots, signs the recession’s ending,
Congressional sessions bringing on the depression, saying
END THE FED, END THE FED,
coin gold and silver when the fed is dead
a free market money what the founders meant
the best way to reign in the government
END THE FED, END THE FED,
hear what I’m saying heard what I said,
if we don’t head the warning, where we going to head?
ten million dollars for a loaf of bread?
Since the Fed’s creation the dollar has lost 95% of it’s value through inflation,
the Boom-bust cycle was a thing of the past,
we were told it could never happen like that ever again,
and then, the bottom fell out, the ten trillion dollar bailout,
you better get your wheel barrow out of the garage because you’re gonna need it,
better plant your garden seeds if you plan on eating
and they tried to blame the meltdown on the greedy walking tall wall street traders getting drunk,
but who was at the bar, tending, buying rounds who served?
the central bank and the Federal Reserve
In the old days they had a bowl of dust,
these days we’ve got a belt of rust
and a booming-bust, buying broken trusts,
let the banks fail. leave’em belly up
fraudulent fraction,currency’s elastic,
economic magic the whole story’s tragic
spiraling debt as it starts to unfurl,
the bubble that broke the world
The Fed drives a wedge in savings and investment,
poor prosperity through deficit spending
Greenspan guarantee, it’s about inflow
Helicopter Bernanke, broken discount window
“Call the witch doctor!!”
I don’t wanna hear it
John Maynard Keynes and his animal spirits
start a tea party, Campaign for Liberty
the blood of tyrants and Patriots at the liberty tree
there’s a freedom movement
a second revolution
Y’aughta know the truth and
what’s the solution
AUDIT THE FED AND THEN END IT folks
at the freedom rally burning dollar bill notes, chanting
END THE FED, END THE FED,
the mask comes of and the veil’s shed,
not so long ago it seemed nobody cared, now we got’em running scared
END THE FED, END THE FED,
the empire’s naked and the king is dead,
stand tall Ron Paul you should be proud, we heard you’re voice come in clear and loud

Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero is pretty good all around, and I especially like Meet your Master:

http://www.casttv.com/video/xinag5/nine-inch-nails-meet-your-master-video

Bow down in position
Against the polished steel
This is something different
You’ll like the way this feels
No time for asking questions
No time for wondering
We’ve heard enough from you now
We’ve heard everything

We’re gonna play a new game
You’ll put on this blindfold
You’ll do what we tell you
You’ll do as you’re told
Used to be the leader but
Now comes the time to serve
Maybe we’ll show some mercy
Maybe you get what you deserve

Count down to the end,
gonna make it come faster
Right around the bend
is a coming disaster, master
Count down to the end,
and we’re headed there faster, faster
Come on down, my friend
It’s time to meet your master

You’ve left quite a mess here
under your stewardship
You thought you’d figured it out but
you’ll learn your place in this
might take some convincing,
for you to see the truth
There are so many things,
we’ve got in store for you

Countdown to the end, gonna make it go faster, faster
Right around the bend
is a coming disaster
Count down to the end,
and we’re headed there faster, faster
Come on down, my friend
It’s time to meet your master

meet your master…

Come on down…

Mad Mission, by Patty Griffin

"We were drinking like the Irish but we were drinking scotch
Bartender turns on a movie, everybody turned to watch
And every single eye was gleaming when they reached the final scene
Well, at least mine did, here’s lookin’ at you, kid

You know it’s a mad mission under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It’s a mad mission, but I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
Sign me up

I think I’ve seen the look before,yes, it’s kind of non-commital
It says ‘come hither, baby,’ but then he’s hard wood to whittle
He says it don’t mean a thing, but still, somehow it does
He’d like you to join the club that likes to say
There’s no such thing as love

And it’s a mad mission under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It’s a mad mission, but I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
Sign me up

Sometimes you find yourself flying low at night
Flying blind and looking for any sign of light
You’re cold and scared, and all alone
You’d do anything just to make it home

It’s a mad mission under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It’s a mad mission but I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
Sign me up
Sign me up"

Motorhead - Talking Head. I remember reading that Lemmy (vocalist/bassist) said that politically he finds himself to be libertarian.

Don’t touch that dial!
Television screams, your face turning green,
Don’t listen to the news,
Don’t know what you hear, they never make it clear,
They like to keep your state confused,
Propaganda time, the official line,
You’re hungry, you get fed,
Everlasting smile, you must convey their style,
But they’re just a Talking Head

Television voice don’t give you any choice,
You only hear the man,
Don’t take them in, you don’t know where they been,
'Cos it’s a complex plan,
They keep you nice and quiet, even control your diet,
You’re hungry you get fed,
Teach you to be meek, 'til all you are is weak,
'Til you’re just a Talking Head

Television screams, this ought to be a dream,
Remember what I say,
Don’t be hypnotised by sugar coated lies,
Don’t switch it on today,
It’s the way things are, from that pickle jar,
You’re hungry you get fed,
But if you play the game, you become the same,
Another Talking Head

A lot of punk bands (though many have an anti capitalist attitude), I’d say most of the songs by the Dead Kennedys or Crass. Like the Stars and Stripes of Corruption (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/deadkennedys/starsandstripesofcorruption.html) or Bleed For Me (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/deadkennedys/bleedforme.html), or I Fought the Law (“I AM THE LAW so I won!”). Not only punk bands though, a lot of music has libertarian themes.

Straylight Run

“Who Will Save Us Now”

Some of us are born
And then some of us are born again
Some of us are scared to death
And some just don’t believe in it

Something’s always wrong
There’s a line
An idea i cant get behind
No one knows whats right
Some try
Some just try to find a king

They say
Who will save us now
It’s our life
But we don’t want to live it
We want to be told how
By something or someone
Who’s better than us
Who we know we can trust
Who will always protect us
Keep us scared to death
So we never ask questions
We’ll dictate the consequences of our actions
And give us peace of mind about our miserable lives
Find it content all we want is a place we can hide
We can hide

Someone always fought
You can rest assured
It’s the young and the poor who fought all out wars
Led to death by men who they chose
And hoped would protect them

Who will save us now
It’s our life but we don’t want to live it
And all you’ll get is down
Cause the people you elect to protect your best interests
Will just protect themselves and all their investments
And even the few with the best of intentions
Will just push their views on what they think is right for you
And everyone else, you can’t think for yourself
Cause you’ve chosen to let someone else do it for you
So we’re left to drift between our waking life and all our dreams,
Reality is relative,

And that’s all the advice I’ll give.
And that’s all the advice I’ll give
Life and death are hard
They’re such strange and complicated issues
So listen listen well
For insight
And no one knows what’s right for you
Who will save us now
It’s a wrong
And irrelevant question
We figure it out
With the people who love us
Who call us our brothers
Through lessons we’ve learned
From our fathers and mothers
Now looking for someone to find our solutions
To fight all our battles
Or show us what truth is
By working hard to find our own piece of mind
Living and learning till we know what’s right for our lives our lives

Nine Inch Nails

“Capital G”

I pushed the button and elected him to office and a
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch it on the television
Those motherfuckers didn’t last too long

I’m sick of hearing about the “have’s” and “have not’s”
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we’ve been doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I’ll be keeping for me

Well I used to stand for something
Now I’m on my hands and knees
Trading in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

Don’t give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don’t really see what all the fuss is about
Ain’t gonna worry about no future generations and a
And I’m sure somebody’s gonna figure it out

Don’t try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You haven’t had enough to know what its like
You’re only angry 'cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I’m right… alright!

Well I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There’s a lot of me inside you
Maybe you’re afraid to see

Well I used to stand for something
Now I’m on my hands and knees
Trading in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

“We’re all people, who needs countries anyway?” - Song: Stars and Stripes of Corruption by the Dead Kennedys

Most punk bands do project leftist politics. Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedy’s is openly leftist. I’ve been paying more attention to Crass lyrics, and I find that they don’t project those themes compared to their contemporaries like Flux of Pink Indians, Anthrax, Conflict, Dirt, etc etc. I don’t think Crass ever got on anything that had to do with economics, either. Then you have the band’s who lyrical themes were pretty basic like Chaos UK, Discharge, Destructors, Mau Maus, etc etc.

As a general preference for punk I’d rather listen to something that’s more apolitical than something that gets political then preachy then something I don’t agree with.

What do you think about The Clash? Although they were definitely leftist, I think they were more libertarian than people realize. Most of their political songs condemn statist policies: American imperialism (Straight to Hell), the war on drugs (Red Angel Dragnet), the police state (Police and Thieves), and Muslim theocracy (Rock the Casbah). Also, Lost in the Supermarket is a great song about mindless conformity.

And finally, perhaps the best of them all is Know Your Rights:

"Number one:
You have the right not to be killed.
Murder is a crime!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat.
Know your rights!"

and

"Number three:
You have the right to free speech
As long as you’re not
Dumb enough to actually try it."

And in his later years, Joe Strummer became even more libertarian, I think. Here he is exposing the G8 summit as a “photo opportunity” and arguing for the legalization of marijuana.

Before he died in 2002, Strummer released three albums with his band Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, which include lots of pro-freedom and pro-individualism lyrics.

Also, for you metal fans out there, John Schaffer of Iced Earth recently started a new project called Sons of Liberty that’s about as libertarian as it gets. You can download the album for free - he wants people to spread the message!

For that matter, Megadeth has always been pretty anti-government. Recently they seem to be more paranoid than anything, but it makes for good lyrics. Check out “Bite the Hand that Feeds”, “Endgame”, “Gears of War”, “United Abominations”, “Amerikhastan”, “Foreclosure of a Dream”, “Peace Sells But Who’s Buyin?”, “Rust in Peace”. I’m sure there are more, but those instantly come to mind.

A lot of their lyrics are against nuclear war/weapons. The term “megadeath” was apparently used as a shorthand way to describe a million deaths, discussed around the context of a nuclear war.
