Book Recommendations

I’m thirsting for some new books, and would like to see what ya’ll recommend. I’m looking for a few different categories.

  1. Austrian Literature (I’ve read most all Mises, Rothbard, and Hoppe) I’m looking for books on methodology.

  2. Books on Logic.

  3. History (American, World, anything that is well written and unique)

  4. Any non-fiction book that you think I should read. I’m specifically interested in Business Leadership, Management, etc… (broad I know, but maybe you have some ideas)

The Omnivore’s Dillema and In Defence of Food by Pollan

There is the book “A Land Remembered” by Patrick Smith that details the history of a Florida Cracker family form 1850s to 1960s, and how from basically nothing, they went to real estate tycoons- and w/o gov’t help. Not sure if this is what your looking for- but defiantly the “self-help” aspect.

The best logic book I have ever read is Introduction to Logic by Harry Gensler. If you want a management book from an Austrian perspective, check out The Science of Success by Charles Koch.

Art of Clear Thinking by Rudolf Flesch. Title says it all.

Compassion and Self Hate by T. I. Rubin. Book a clever person can use to rid himself of all kinds of illogical thinking he as been brainwashed into.

Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Clear thinking and experience applied to getting physically stronger very quickly.

History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell. In this book you see the meastro applying logic to destroy utterly all the nonsense passing for deep thinking in certain circles. Very witty, as well.

Any short story [yes, fiction, sorry] by D H Lawrence. In which you see what a perceptive genius saw as he looked at the world. Makes one realize the depth of our inner selves.

The Interpretation of Dreams by Freud. In which we see creative genius producing a masterpiece that lays bare what dreaming is about.

Any book by Eric Berne. Sheer truth about what people are like. One, I forget which, ends with an analysis of fairy tales like Red Riding Hood and such that totally boggles the mind.

Any book by P G Wodehouse with “Jeeves” in the title [yes, fiction]. Lays out a moral code and an outlook on life that are invaluable. Beware of choking on your coffee from laughter as you read.
