Book typos

I just wanted to point out some typographical errors I’ve found.

Individualism and Economic Order, table of contents, “XII. The Economic Conditoins of Interstate Federalism”.

Way to Willpower:

Page 14: ‘Unite States’

Page 34: ‘Unite States’

Page 36: ‘that this’

page 45: ‘DO not’

Page 47: ‘word down’

Page 64: ‘train of though’

Page 72: ‘my had is off’

Page 73: Forgot the )

Page 79: ‘my miss’

Most of the reviewers, including myself note typographical errors. I didn’t compile a list like I did for Way to Willpower, but just to let it be known…

What Austrian Scholars Should Know About Logic (Any Why)

We actually have a wiki page for this exact thing! Would you be willing to create an account for yourself and offer your contributions?

MisesWiki:Typos

Got it.

I saw a funny one last night:

I just finished reading Democracy: The God That Failed. In chapter 11, footnote 27 talks about Mises, Hayek, Rothbard and the perspective of each and then ends with “See also note 30 below.”

There is no note 30 below.

This is great, thank you very much for pointing these errors out. I will work on fixing the EPUB soon.

I believe this is the perfect oppurtunity to tell the forums a little project I have been working on the past many months. I have been working on EPUBs of many of the books and have been releasing them on my blogspot. I have also been in contact with some of the Mises staff in some cases to even get slightly better scans.

So far I have fixed 7 EPUBs:

Chaos Theory By Robert Murphy
Bourbon For Breakfast By Jeffrey Tucker
Lessons For The Young Economist By Robert Murphy
Man, Economy, And State By Murray Rothbard
A History of Money And Banking In The United States By Murray Rothbard
Anatomy of The State By Murray Rothbard
An Introduction To The Theory of Value By William Smart

And I have released 15 brand new EPUBs (Chronological Release order, earlier ones are probably not up to my newer quality standards):

Dying of Money By Jens O. Parsson
The Complete Writings of Thomas Paine: Volume 1 By Thomas Paine
The Complete Writings of Thomas Paine: Volume 2 By Thomas Paine
The Privatization of Roads and Highways By Walter Block (made it a few months before the official EPUB was released.. official looks fancier)
From Bretton Woods To World Inflation By Henry Hazlitt
An Economic Review of The Patent System By Fritz Machlup
Free Market Economics: A Basic Reader By Bettina Bien Greaves (ACCEPTED ON MISES)
Free Market Economics: A Syllabus By Bettina Bien Greaves (ACCEPTED ON MISES)
The Development of Economics by William A. Scott
America’s Second Crusade By William Henry Chamberlin
Reassessing The Presidency By John V. Denson
The Incredible Bread Machine By R.W. Grant
Introduction To Economics By John V. Van Sickle
Ten Thousand Commandments - A Story of The Antitrust Laws By Harold Fleming
The Philosophy of Ownership By Robert LeFevre
The Socialist Empire: The Incas of Peru by Louis Baudin

I have also been working on EPUBs of every Mises article (1998-2011).

Wow, did not even know this existed. Thank you, I will be sure to use this when fixing EPUBs.

In depth release notes and links to the files can be found at my blogspot here:

Also as a side note, for those who still like PDFs. All of the books in which I create brand new EPUBs, I also release better PDFs which are much smaller filesize, cleaner (sometimes new scanned pages), and have much better text backends (matches the EPUBs that I release).

Nice work Fephisto! (And Tex2002ans as well!)

Now reading America’s Great Depression.

pg. 141 “attachè” rather than “attaché”

pg. 297 uses “FRC” rather than “RFC” (Reconstruction Finance Corporation)

pg. 304 Missing capital letter after period:

The artifical cheap money policy in 1932 greatly lowered interest rates all-around, and therefore further discouraged the banks from making loans or investments. just when risk was increasing […]

pgs. 325-6 uses “property right” rather than “property rights.” Occurs on once on both pages.

pg. 327 uses “principals” rather than “principles”

The same errors were in the EPUB versions of those books, so I implemented all the changes that were mentioned.

I’ve just received WHGDTOM and there are typos there too!

Page 71, pagaraph 4: “Sometimes they will permitted banks to susppend payment, as in the compulsory bank “holidays of 1933.””

There was another typo - but I can’t find it now,

Over the past week I have created EPUBs for these two books:

Wealth: A Brief Explanation of The Causes of Economics Welfare By Edwin Cannan

Holy cow, Tex, you’ve been hard at work.

Also, that Miseswiki page looks @#$!ing amazing.

Thank you,

That will be a months long project… but could always use more eyes.

The wiki could always use some more typos though!!!

Just a heads up, I have been working on EPUBs for Leonard Read’s books. The PDFs are high quality scans, and short, so it is pretty quick to convert. So far I have taken care of 5 books:

https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/wiki/MisesWiki:Typos#Accent_on_the_Right
https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/wiki/MisesWiki:Typos#Awake_For_Freedom.27s_Sake

https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/wiki/MisesWiki:Typos#Comes_the_Dawn
https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/wiki/MisesWiki:Typos#Deeper_Than_You_Think

These EPUBs are already submitted to the Institute, and in the pipeline.

All of these EPUBs are in the pipeline for official Mises covers/ISBNs:

Ouroboros or the Mechanical Extension of Mankind by Garet Garrett:

Let Freedom Reign:

http://misesbooks.blogspot.com/2012/10/let-freedom-reign-by-leonard-e-read.html

Here are a few more from Hoppe’s The Great Fiction:

pg. 296,

footnote 51 reads:

The reference to Hoppe does not specify what book is being referenced.

pg. 347-48, [emphasis mine]

Should read “not contracts” or “not-contracts.”

pg. 381, [emphasis mine]

Improper verb-subject agreement.

Presently, this is for the sake of repairing the EPUB version, the book can only be purchased through LFB. Also, should the wiki page be linked to this thread?

The Wiki is more for the books sold/hosted on Mises.org, but I will send an email over to Jeff Tucker informing him of the typos. Thank you for more pointing out typos though!

John James linked to it earlier in the thread, and I did link to it a few times for the Leonard Read books:

https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/wiki/MisesWiki:Typos

I see now. Still, I can also see the book being published here as well. I dunno.

I should have been clearer. I meant: should this thread be on the wiki page as a source or a place where potential readers can come to add links and such.

Indeed. As of right now it is under an exclusive deal with LFB, but yes, I have no doubt that the Mises Institute will most likely pick it up to sell in the store some time in the future.

Ahhh.. that would be a great idea. I will add it to the top of the wiki right away.
