Awesome we just found another right!
“Now Brussels has declared that tourism is a human right and pensioners, youths and those too poor to afford it should have their travel subsidised by the taxpayer.”
Not just holidays but tourism lol.
By this logic, I think I could reasonably argue that I should be able to get anything paid for by the government if I can’t afford it.
I propose that hookers are a fundamental right! Also perhaps HDTVs, 1080p of course.
When will freedom become a right again?
I’m with Permabear. Also I think I should have a right to a 2010 Mercedes CLS 550. Also a private jet.
Ahahaha
At the rate they are going, soon everything from televisions to big houses to lots of money will be human rights.
Of course, the right to your own labour isn’t a human right.
“When will freedom become a right again?”
Well said.
This decree is prejudice against your personal preferences. Official discrimination. Egad!
In the UK ‘holiday’ means what we would call a vacation.
How they were able to turn human rights from a reason for limited government into a reason for government intervention in any way still boggles my mind.
Some more good stuff, this is the motto of an ‘alternative’ newspaper on my campus:
“We are firmly opposed to oppression in all its possible forms (gender, sexual orientation, race, ability, religion, creed, etc.) and are dedicated to upholding and promoting a clear vision of social justice through the publication of labour, union, and activist-positive material.”
not sure if they mean physical ability or also productive ability
but the interesting part is sexual orientation AND religion AND creed. Does that mean you can’t oppress christians from banning gays, but that would be against sexual discrimination, seems to me you have to “oppress” one of the two…
To quote Voltaire “Sir, you have done a wonderful masterpiece”.
Let’s see… people are deleting holydays in Greece because of unrest; Spain desperately needs new sources of income; hotels in Italy lost anywhere between 30 and 60% occupancy because of worsening economic conditions… luckily last week I read a piece declaring “the EU is opposed to all forms of susidies”. Yes, right, and my name is David Arquette and I go to bed with Courtney Cox each night.
Oh. I probably should’ve guessed that.
Well, as I’ve been told on another forum, rights are just societal constructs. If people get together and determine something should be a right it becomes one.
Yes, that’s how legal rights work. As long as you can get majority public consent for it and you can enforce the ruling, it’s the law.
Apparently in Brussel’s if you are going on a vacation this appears to be a possibility. So go on vacation and get the cars, TV’s, jets, etc… and say those were part of the expenses of vacation travel.
P.S. This whole thing by Brussel’s appears to be beer and wine for the masses. They are actively trying to appease the population not only for any malcontent that is current but it can’t be ruled out that something is about to further happen that may make the population uncomfortable so they are making sure this gets out to the masses so even though some pain is down the road, vacations will off-set this pain. hmmm, we’ll see.
Yes, but their argument is that legal rights are the only legitimate rights that exist. Which means they condone rape, slavery and murder when it’s legal.
Legitimate means legal though. I think what you’re implying is that there is a higher law than man’s law.
Sorry, I’m still trying to get used to this new format.
Are right and wrong simply determined by majority vote?
No, but legal and not legal are. I don’t think man’s law is not about right and wrong though. I think it’s about what is allowed and what isn’t. Laws don’t have to be moral or just to be laws, they simply have to be accepted by a majority and enforced regularly.
With all due respect - Duh.
