Business Models for an IP Free World

This is not, I repeat NOT a thread for discussing the merits or otherwise of IP.

Most arguments against IP are pragmatic- certain industries would cease to exist or be seriously damaged if it weren’t for IP. So I write this thread where individuals can hypothesise business models for various industries in an IP Free World. Hopefully this can form the basis of a repository of workable models for an IP free world. If we can demonstrate that this is feasible we will win even more people to our side.

I’ve seen a few been posted in IP threads so I know there’s ideas out there. I have a few sketchy ones but that’s it. Let’s not leave any industry that currently relies on IP to be untouched.

well, please pick out one such Industry that would require a New Model. and lets have at it. though i think it would be a mistake to simply assume that a given industry would need to recieve its current level of income for its contribution in a no-IP world compared to ours, hence this must be kept in mind throughout.

Good point. I’m not saying we have to argue they would receive the same amount of revenue streams but that most industries would still be viable though it is conceivable that some wouldn’t.

Ok let’s hit the drug industry first.

Rush to the market first with a cure first so you can charge higher price meanwhile earning the lion share of the profits. This is using the principle called the first mover advantage.

drug companies that emphasis their trustworthyness and track record for honesty and effective treatment can charge premium brand derived prices for their drug products.new or old
