The reason I ask is because I watched the film “Cocaine Cowboys” and in it they mention how during the early 80’s while most of the country was going through a down turn Florida inparticular Miami was booming. Now i know that this boom was due to the flood of drugs that were coming in from Colombia but can a State have a booming economy absent of drugs while the rest of the country is in a depression?
That’s federalism at work. lol
Haha very true. I know politicians are looked down upon here as they should be but can a governor of a state run his state so well that a situation like that in Florida int he 80’s happen?
Two words: free market
I’d say Washington DC is booming right now.
Also, if you’re one of those guys who goes in and cleans & fixes up foreclosed houses then you’re probably booming with business as well.
I wouldn’t say the economy is booming here, but so far Philadelphia has been doing pretty well. Even the housing market has remained relatively sound. New condo buildings are being filled up rather quickly and there’s a bunch of realistic proposals on the table. We even have a good chance of getting a 1510’ tall office building constructed. I think that much of this strength can be attributed to the large roles that healthcare and education play in the local economy. The only thing I’m really worried about is an increase in the already bloated welfare system of the city.
