Caramel Coloring in Colas Cancer Causing

The “caramel coloring” used to color all the top cola brands isn’t natural caramel coloring at all. Instead, it’s made by reacting sugars with ammonia and sulfites at high temperatures. This reaction results in the formation of 2-methylimidazole and 4-methylimidazole, both of which are chemicals documented by the U.S. government to cause cancer in mammals.

This is all coming to light thanks to an effort by the CSPI, which has now filed a regulatory petition to ban these chemicals from colas (http://www.cspinet.org/new/20110216…).

2-methylimidazole and 4-methylimidazole Just don’t have the same ring as “Caramel Coloring”. Mmmmmmmmm.

it seems like everything we do today causes cancer… oh well

Well, if I learned anything from my AP Environmental “Science” class, its that everthing causes cancer in high-enough dose/long enough time in contact, and that water+ dirt = mud

And what elese is fun is whether or not Pepsi, or the other caremel add-ins are “real” or not.

Cool.

This is all a marketing scheme to boost sales for the relaunch of Crystal Pepsi.

So if you agree with the study the for heavens sake, don’t drink the cola.

Great post. We don’t need to ban Coke or Pepsi – anyone who ingests these poisons knows they’re guzzling a chemical soup. Its like the old excuse about not knowing smoking harms the body. Everyone knew.

To approach it from another angle, no one is proposing we ban paint because drinking it could lead to cancer. Take responsibility for what you shove down your gullet.

haha, say tht 5x fast

The people most likely to recieve cancer from this more likely already, or are going to get, diabetes first.

Except for those of us who only drink diet pops…

“Except for those of us who only drink diet pops…”

the aspartame in diet sodas is alot worse for you than the sugar.

Everything I’v been able to find indicates that isnt true. Aspartame CAN cause cancer, but only at inhumanly large quantities. The worst effect I can find is that it stimulates appatite, so you eat more, which would seem to defeat the purpose of drinking diet pops. But I mostly drink them for the taste(non-diet pops leave my throat feeling sticky and weird).

Now, there are people who are alergic to the stuff, and in these particular indviduals it can cause headaches and nausia(my sister was one such person), but that doesnt seem to be an issue for me.

“Everything I’v been able to find indicates that isnt true.”

Here’s some things to keep in mind:

  • genetically modified bacteria are used to create aspartame
  • studies show consumption of aspatame increases premature births
  • studies show it damages the kidneys
  • research has found connections btw aspartame intake and leukemia

  • studies link it to brain degeneration

Neurosurgeon Dr. Russel Blaylock has written a book describing the dangers of aspartame.
