Card game design

I’m designing a card game in which chemical industrialists compete over resources and machines to best satisfy shifting demand for goods.

The game contains action cards which will represent the interventions of the State, ostensibly for the benefit of citizens but in fact for the benefit of the business who lobbied for the intervention.

To this end I will name each action card as the State would name its legislation.

For example, an action card that prevented an opponent in the game from using one of his machines might be called Employee Safety Legislation, or one which allowed a player to alter demand for various goods might be called Environmental Protection Act or Modify Tax Rate.

Could anyone here direct me to a list of such legislation in which I might find inspiration?

Or if anyone had any suggestions for the following cards I’d be very grateful. I’ll put the names I’ve been using in prototypes in brackets.

  1. A card that cancels an opponent’s action card. (Filibuster)
  2. A card that disables an opponent’s machine (Employee Safety Legislation)
  3. A card that lets a player determine demand (Environmental Protection Legislation)
  4. A card that lets a player increase or decrease demand (Modify Tax Rate)
  5. A card that lets a player alter the inputs or outputs of a machine (Industry Planning Legislation)
  6. A card that lets a player bid for resources or contracts first (State Subsidy, but I’d like something to do with the idea of a national champion of industry)
  7. Forbid the sale of a certain good (Product Safety Legislation)
  8. Use an opponent’s machine (Antitrust Legislation)
  9. Force players to discards resources of a certain type (Dangerous Substance Alert)
  10. A card that may either add to or reduce the productivity of a machine (No idea)
  11. A card that disables all machines that have as their input or output a certain type of resource (No idea)

Any help anyone can give me will gratefully received.

Neil

What a great idea. Just to toss out ideas:

A card that lets a player bid for resources or contracts first (State Subsidy, but I’d like something to do with the idea of a national champion of industry) Responsible Industry Leadership

A card that may either add to or reduce the productivity of a machine (No idea) Union Worker Protection, Economy Stabilization Act

A card that disables all machines that have as their input or output a certain type of resource (No idea) Protective Tariff

11.A card that disables all machines that have as their input or output a certain type of resource (No idea)

Patent Infringement Lawsuit? :stuck_out_tongue:

vekkna, have you ever published a game before? This site has a lot of good ideas. Though it talks a lot about video games, I believe there is stuff on card/board games as well.

The nature of the game could be that you use legislation and it allows you to set up what it’s effects are but it would affect everyone equally. So you have to plan how to build your business so that the regulation wont effect you as much as it effects your opponent.

Say you open up a regulatory commission and it adds a fixed cost for everyone and then you can set rules for particular industrial processes and you can build up certain products and then attack your opponents with legislation.

You can have a several chemical products, some might have different production methods.

  1. Sulfur

  2. Industrial Solvents

  3. Plastics (say pvc, nylon and acrylic)

  4. Rubber

  5. Water treatment chemicals (chlorine and flouride)

  6. Pesticides and Herbicides

  7. Batteries

  8. Sillicone Products

  9. Bleach

  10. Paints
