What do people here think about state enforced child support.I’m sure no one has any issue with child support voluntarily agreed to by contract but how do people here feel about child support when it’s forced on a father against his will and child support agencies are able to withdraw his passport,driving licence etc and track him down while speaking to everyone he associates with.
I don’t think I’ve heard many libertarians mention this.
If you hear the word “forced”, then libertarians are against it.
First off, I’m going to say that I am probably very biased when it comes to this, being a male with no children of my own.
I think that it should just be part of the marriage agreement. As in “The undersigned parties agree to be married on such-and-such date, if this union ceases so-and-so will pay child support…”
I think the answer to this question is pretty obvious. “Child Support” is theft. Furthermore, it has nothing to do with supporting children. If it did, the children would be the ones who got the “child support” money. “Child Support” is a euphemism for the looting of one parent by the other. In some cases, government courts have actually required men to pay “Child Support” for kids that they didn’t even father, which lays bare the true nature of “child support.”
In fact, the government courts do not have any “right” to impose any terms upon a divorce. All divorce terms must be voluntarily agreed to by all partners in the marriage. To impose divorce terms without consent that include a transfer of wealth from one party to another is nothing more than blatant theft. When the day of libertarian victory arrives, the recipients of coerced “child support” largesse will be forced to repay their ill-gotten gains just like other thieves whose crimes are condoned by the criminals of the State.
This is an obvious position, but one which libertarians have lacked the moral courage to unequivocally take due to the vehemence of the statists that promote this form of blatant theft.
I too believe that child support is theft. In many cases the children are also stolen from a father who wishes to see the children more often. If a woman and man are not in love and ready to support a child then they better invest in abstinence. Sex has a purpose… Making babies.
Based on the system we do have though, I believe that child support payments should be subject to audit. If an audit is found to have squandered money on places other than the children, the payments are stopped or reduced to the appropriate level. Ask Brittney Spears what she thinks about the matter.
