Chumpsky on the economy

See here. I wonder which economists he is speaking of? His MIT cronies? Also listen to him rant about the profit motive. He is good at weaving bullshit, that is for sure. This hack can’t die soon enough.

I’ve read a lot by and about Noam Chomsky. When he writes about American imperialism, I think he is pretty well on the track. Some libertarians also do like his position about the Israel-Palestine conflict. But as far as the western capitalist system is considered, the logic of this guy goes like this:

  1. USA claims to be a free market country

  2. In fact, this is a fraudulent claim, and the USA is a protectionist country with big government and corporate welfare

  3. USA does nasty things…

  4. …therefore you have to denounce all free markets, because they do nasty things

To put it simply: this guy has no idea about economics, and he even admits it occasionally. I wonder whether anyone here has read The Anti-Chomsky Reader, edited by David Horowitz & Peter Collier, and is it worth of reading? (I am aware that Horowitz is a neocon, but he has written something good about communism and the left liberal elite.)

“Economists know that markets are inefficient”

O RLY, Gnomie? Letting people make their own decisions does not bring the best outcome?

The problem with Chomsky is that sometimes he is insightful and knowledgeable so a lot of people (especially leftists at my school) think that he is always insighful and knowledgeable.

I hate the way he pontificates with such assuredness on subjects that he is so ignorant of. That drives me crazy.

And could he invest in some new glasses?

He should’ve stuck with Linguistics like a good little academic, imo.

He also wears Velcro shoes.

I should say that I am in linguistics myself and I simply put my fingers over my ears. Noam is like the father that always tells you what a disappointment you are… but you keep reading his self-referential tracts over the same subject matter every time they get published by his university hoping one day for approval. I’m sure you can all relate.

I’ve always wanted to know what exactly noam has to say about linguistics, could you give an example of something you disagree with him about?
