Are there any good critiques of Democracy anywhere? I would like to read/listen to a good one. Quite frankly, the idea of “majority rule” gets on my nerves.
Its pretty barbaric if the majority rule is that a family should be hanged, then it will be so. Not whether it is right, or whether it works or not.

The probability of your vote having a marginal product (changing the winner) is the same as the probability of the difference between the winner and loser being 0 or 1 minus your vote. Voting expecting to have an effect is stupidity.
This is what you pull out when someone says that voting minor is a waste of a vote.

Democracy: The God That Failed
It’s not perfect but an interesting read to be sure.
One incredible statistic that caught my eye in that book is that the height of Monarchy (stretching some thousands of years) the income of its citizenry were only taxed at about 7% whereas democracy, a relatively new form government by application, we have already tax rates reaching 1/3 to 1/2 our income.
Another one is In Defense of Anarchism by Robert Paul Wolff. it’s available online at http://www.ditext.com/wolff/anarchy.html or you can buy a copy at Amazon or other places. Ironically, I don’t really consider it a very good defense of anarchism, in spite of the title, but it does deal rather well with the flaws of various forms of democracy.
