Hey guys,

So I will be returning from Copengagen, Denmark (DK) on the 19th of November. I am a Duel citizen of U.S and DK. The purpose of my visit to Denmark? Confidential. I am constantly flying between the U.S and the EU, and I really am tired of the way I’m treated in the U.S compared to DK. Doesn’t matter if your U.S, E.U citizen, in Danmark they look at your passport, and let you through.

All the questions I get from CBP had started to bug me. Especially this time, since I was asked about some monetary information when I left the country! This had never happened before.

I have been doing some reading, and it appears to me that we are giving up our 5th amendment rights when going through “questioning” by the CBP.

Inspired by this, it seems we still have a right to remain silent, and cannot be denied entry into the u.s for merely remaining silent as long as we present proof of citizenship.

My plan is to play ignorant, using the same strategy as the Ron Paul guy that was pulled aside for having too much cash. I’ll ask if I’m required by law to answer, and do I not have a right to remain silent.

I will also record this, similar to how he did.

My only concern is for my computer. Given that can be seized without reason. I’m in the process of cleaning that up, I am considering using file-vault but that doesn’t help me if they hold it indefinitely.

Any suggestions on what you might do differently?

Leaving Canada Thursday I was told that Canada law requires reporting tansporting money amounts over $10,000. But that does not mean that you have to report it to the police or at the exact time of departure/arrival. The police are not accountants.

Why do you say that? It would seem to be unlawful seizure in this circumstance, in which case any evidence on it couldn’t be used against you anyway.

Oh, I don’t make a fuss in airports. My trips are very important. I can’t allow delays and disruptions.

I’m thinking at the very least i should ask them something along the lines of “will you use force against me if I don’t answer this question?”

If you are planning to be “uncooperative” with CBP and are worried about your laptop, then consider mailing it instead of having it on you while you travel.
