Debunking US myths: did washington really refuse being King?

Not really a discussion just more of me learning about US history and telling everyone else.

In answer to the question ,recent scholarship says No.

The real Washington is far from the picture most have of him.

King of what?

Reminds me of Hamilton’s suggestion at the Constitutional Convention of there being a “permanent president”, among other bizarrely tyrannical ideas.

He was never offered to be King, but there was discussion on what the title of the leader of the country would be.

I never heard that version of the story. Instead, in middle school and whatever, they told us that he was “asked” to be the president for a further term but refused because he did not want to be “like a king” or something.
