Discussing the 44th president's inauguration

It was an african american male, around age 35.

Far from that, he is a statist and I made that clear, so all your arguments are good for any statist I can think of.

Yet, maybe I have only a 5% brain but I would never ever not listen to anything that is said especially by someone who does not share my beliefs. Outrage is understandable, but a poor way to convey ones own beliefs. And being an anarcho capitalist educating people about my beliefs is the only way open for me. In contrast to collectivsts I am not able to simply coerce them to my point of view, I need the power of convincing. You do not convince people with outrage and furious blaming.

Sorry folks but I do not buy in to a black and white scheme, from no side.

The West is doomed.

lol

Yeah, let me know how moderation turns out.

Tell that to the millions of people killed or wounded by the votes on Baracktrack Obama in the Senate.

You are safe in America, you can afford to be a moderate. To listen to speeches, to wait and see. To muzzle your outrage, and avoid placing blame.

People you don’t see die, so you can do be patient, and measured, and analytical and comfortable. While millions gather to swoon over Obama, and 10s of millions more watch his speeches, his troops are crushing the skulls of innocent civilians and burning their homes. But take your time. You can’t afford to see right and wrong as black and white.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE MILITARY?

President Obama (pbuh) does not share your perspective, having titled one of his two autobiographies “Dreams of my Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” and relating in it how he ended a serious relationship with a girl because she was white.

First I am not in America.

Second, please reread my remarks about flame threats in my original post.

Third, I really wonder what kind of liberty you study. I am surprised how easy you take on collectivst argumentation if it seems fit your point of view.

I can not follow your argument that the vote of any politician on anything ever killed a single individual. A vote can not kill. Humans kill. Individuals kill and murder. I belive that the former US administration was the worst ever, Yet I would never argue that G.W. Bush or Dick Cheyney ever killed a single Iraqi or whomever for that matter. State power comes not from the state but from the individuals that either bow to this power or commit crimes in the name of that power. It is collectivist thinking that a soldier is not murdering if he is send to murder by an order of the state.

Forth, I keep it there and close this threat from my side. Seems there is no way to talk about the speech, so why bother.

First, has the state commited a crime by ordering the soldier to murder?
Second, lets say a soldier was drafted, and forced to kill in order to avoid going to jail. Is that drafted soldier commiting a crime?

I just want clarification on your stance.

So what? Does that say anything about my perspective?

Being a libertartian I do not have any business whith what you believe, Obama believes or does or any other individual as long as it does not initiate aggression against my property.

If you try to agress against me there will be a reply. If Obama tries to aggress against me, there will be a reply. Having said this, I do what pleases me and what I think would be a good means to achieve my goals.

My goal is to live in a world that is as peaceful as possible. One of the means trying to achieve this is to tell others what I believe is the right way to get there. This way is similiar to the way of division of labor. Cooperation rather than confrontation. So my way is not to mock and make fun of the hopes and dreams of others, but to try to show them that the means they use might not be working to achieve their goals, because I win nothing by getting another foe, but I gain a lot by finding someone cooperating with me.

For a lot of americans Obama is a new idol that represents the values they hold dear. Freedom, justice, peace. I am very pessimistic that this is true, in fact I doubt it very much. Yet, by bashing on their dreams, I won’t get anyone of them to start a thinking process other than one that is offensive to me.

I don’t think that is an effective way. If cooperation is effective, indeed the only effective way in economic human relationship, than it should be also effective in changing mindsets.

Cheers

No the state has not commited a crime. Yes a drafted soldier has commited a crime if he murdered.

How in the world can a concept ever commit a crime in the libertarian sense? Crimes can only be commited by individuals. If you give up this basis, you open up the whole system to collectivism.

Groups are concepts, states are groups, therefor states are concepts. Concepts can not act, therefor states can not act. Crime is an action. Actually a crime is the initiation of violence against the property of an individual. Because a crime is an action, and concepts can not act, and groups are concepts and the state is a group, states can not commit crimes. Only individuals can act, though in concert, and therfor only individuals can commit crimes.

If you cecede to a concept that it can force you to act, you actually have ceceded to collectivism already, and from than on it is only my collectivst greed against your collectivist creed.

If I kill you in order to not be killed by a mafia boss, have I commited a crime? Sure I have. Has the mafia boss commited a crime? Not by ordering it. If he murders me, or takes away my freedom, he than has commited a crime. MInd you the Mafia boss only commits a crime if he does it by himself. Else the one who does commits the crime.

Following orders is a collectivst concept altogether. I can voluntarily follow orders, but I am always fully responsible for every single action I take.

My apologies for that.

Yeah, I totally ignored them.

This is a real stretch. I’m a collectivist because I conflate the politicians who direct the war machine, and profit from using it, to the actual deaths? Maybe you are able to justify that Bush has no blood on his hands. I can’t. I won’t listen to a President’s speech, and then disingenuously claim that he is not responsible for his policies.

You say, let’s judge him on his actions. Well, I say, what is the point? Any attempt to tie him to any consequences of his actions by a critic will be labeled by you as collectivism. Which makes listening to his speech for insight all the more ludicrous in my opinion.

Did you really expect to have a dissection of Obama’s speech here? That no one was going to question the premise of why he was even giving a speech, let alone that it was worth listening to?

I’m sorry for mischaracterizing you, and I am somewhat sorry for coming off so aggressive.

But murder really upsets me, and when people say, “there is no black and white”, that’s really throwing snow in my face. Aggressive war, is murder. It is immoral, evil and wrong. And I can say that unequivocally. I don’t have to dance around it. It is wrong. It is evil to kill. If that is black and white, so be it.

Maybe he was drunk ?

I hope so for him to retain any dignity lol

I thought this article regarding the “Worst inaugural addresses in history” was interesting- because it seems to me that speeches with any substance are disregarded as boring by the author- such as Ulysses S. Grant’s.

  1. By state, I was using it as a metaphor to mean the people who are part of the government, more specifically, the military.

  2. How is a group a concept?

  3. I restate my question. I am forced to serve in the military under the order of military personnel, or I will get permanently imprisoned. If I try to escape being put in a military uniform, sent overseas, and killing people, military personnel will look for me and imprison me. Have I commited a crime, and have the people who forced me into service commited a crime? What about the issue of taxation? Who commits a crime if the person does not want to pay? If I aid in the agression of another person (as opposed to me ordering someone else to do it), have I commited a crime?

Don’t forget great oratorical prowess.

good one.

Lighten up and get a sense of humour.

Aretha Franklin’s performance was the best part of the whole deal, tbh.
