It’s something I’ve wondered about for a while. Most of us have a negative opinion toward the Fed and its bankers, including the Chairmen Ben Bernanke. Speaking for myself, I think he’s evil and should hang for his crimes against the people of this country. But I wonder what those guys think of themselves? Bernanke, the soft spoken college professor doesn’t exactly fit the profile of an evildoer/traitor. Does he genuinely consider himself a good guy doing a noble job for the benefit of the American people? Or does he know what a snake he is and just hides it well?
My gut says he thinks he’s a swell guy doing God’s work and thinks the anti-Fed crowd is a bunch of paranoid delusionals. I’d like to believe that he and his cronies know they’re evil monsters but have to put on the happy facade to prevent us from finding out. I think I’d feel better if at least the guy screwing us knew he was screwing us.
They’re the only ones who know that. Ron Paul’s account in Chapter 2 of End the Fed (Only part I’ve read, the part that was made a Daily <.<) at least gives a light picture of Greenspan’s intentions: He thought, because he understood how money works, he could tamper with the economy without causing the bad stuff he knew would happen from central banking.
That said the same chapter also makes me think the people inside the Fed have at least some idea of what’s going on. To paraphrase, “If the public really knew what we did here they’d go nuts.”
If it was this secret, evil cabal, wouldn’t you think that these guys would have Swiss accounts with hundreds of millions of dollars stuffed away in there? It’s hard for me to buy into conspiracy theories, but if they were evil, I’d think the payoff they’d take would be ugodly. Yet, it’s hard for me to imagine guys like Bernanke, Guitner, or even Greenspan (less hard when it comes to him) socking away billions of dollars in Switzerland, just waiting to take off and live with his ill gotten wealth. Obvisouly, if that happens a few years from now when he crashes the currency, I’ll say I expected it the whole time. But it’s hard for me to imagine. And in light of that, I can’t imagine him thinking anything other than he’s a savior of our enonomy and doing us all a solid.
Oh, if Ron Paul would have gotten his audit bill to pass, they would have shit their pants at the Fed. If he gets his bill to allow competitive currencies through, the Fed’s toast.
If I understand correctly Bernanke isn’t allowed to print up money to, say, buy a new TV for himself. And even if he is I don’t think Fed chairmen are allowed to use the printing press for personal uses for the rest of their lives.
nobody thinks they’re evil - only their enemies do (w/ or w/out reason).
To be honest, while i don’t know too much about him, im sure he thinks hes an honest, good person trying to improve the world. It’s just that we see his actions vastly different than he does.
Almost everything thinks they are a good guy, except for the amoralists and paranoid religious types.
People like status, authority, wealth and identity. Politicians are not sociopaths. They’re normal people. Sure as Hell a lot more normal than libertarians.
I personally think most of them realize that they’re not doing the right thing, because they refuse to be audited.
No, that’s not true. They think the unwashed masses are incapable of seeing the necessity/difficulties they face, and don’t want to be subject to them. Which isn’t insane, the majority are always wrong.
I would have thought that people like greenspan , bernanke an geithner think that they are entitled to the money they “earn” that it is just payment for the magical service they provide , being the superhuman intellectuals that they are.
I think a lot of what Bernanke does (or anyone who is politically connected), is designed to keep incumbents in power. I think they know what they are doing is wrong most of the time.

Oh dear. I don’t know what to say, except saying Bernanke should hang is probably not the most productive approach to spreading ones ideas, nor is it probably the most productive line of thinking one could have for dealing with positive application of market or political thinking
