I debate at my local yacht club. To conform to naval tradition, we call it “mast-debating”. I also participate in large, simultaneous debate sessions with the whole floor in my apartment. We call it “mass-debating”.

I am atm, I let myself get suckered into an arguement with some I have no idea who they are (think one, maybe both is a neo-con) about the NYC mosque- and they are perfectly okay with trampling property rights in the name of “taste” and are throwing neat attacks on Mid east in general, who’s at fault and b/c of “them” being at fault, we can tramble their rights, and need to be there shooting at them

If the community had any experience in debate circles like UIL/NFL/tap they would vote her down instantly. No one on that site flows arguments or understands/recognizes abuse.
I wish we could have done wildwest judging. I choose someone, she chooses someone, and then they choose someone else and all three vote on the outcome. So far its just a bunch of kids.
I try to debate all of the time. I’m pretty aggressive in my approach because I want to see reactionary when I debate with stubborn people in a private setting (just one-on-one debate), it at least gives me an opportunity of what NOT to argue in an important debate. For example, I’ve learn to not include the economy when arguing for the legalization of drugs. They’ll end up saying something like, “Yeah, well we could also lower the drinking age to 10 so more people buy alcohol and then little kids would get drunk. Or we could erase the underage sex laws and little girls would get raped. But as long as it will help prostitution rings get money and help the GDP go up!” People do say that. And then I would end up sounding like a heartless person, etc.
Conclusion: For private one-on-one debates, I’m aggressive and try to find different ways of approaching an argument. For public debates with an audience, I’m passive in my approach because I like to watch my opponents say the wrong things so I can lash back out at them. It’s fun to watch people get nervous and squirm around.
I completely agree, she’d be voted down in any formal debate competition.
But since this “e-debate” is a free for all, she’ll throw anything and everything at the wall, until something sticks (e.g., introducing Somalia vs Switzerland at the very last round, without any possibility of rebuttal), so anything goes.
