I don’t but my opposition to gay marriage is not because I am bigoted. My opposition stems from the fact that all legalizing gay marriage will do is create more work for bureaucrats.
I know this position is radical but i don’t think anybody should get married. Marriage is between you and your God, why does the government have to make you sign a paper before you are married?
Many people say if the state does not know about marriage that will create problems such as proeprty ownership. eg ome ownership
But that problem can easily be overcome, the home belongs to whoever’s name it goes under. At the time of buying both parties can put both names as the rightful owners.
It is also a covenant with the community in which you live. Marriage implicates child custody, descent and distribution, contract, and guardianship issues, not to mention a host of social norms. This is not to say that the government should be the licensing authority, but to point out that just because, for example, two men say they are “married” does not mean other people will recognize the relationship as such.
In fact, that is the sole impetus behind “gay marriage”: to have government force people to recognize a legal relationship that they otherwise would not.
