Drug Prohibition and Public Choice

Does anyone know of any research on this front? I’ve been looking around the intarwebs, and couldn’t find anything. I’m very curious as to who keeps drugs illegal.

I believe that hemp and cannabis were illegalized mainly due to pressure from W.R. Hearst, but I would definitely fact check me on that before you go using it. It was about getting rid of some competition if I recall correctly.

Maybe that can jump start you.

The Economics of Prohibition by Thornton touches on this a little I believe. Right now the special interests you’d look to are pharma companies, leo organizations, the prison industry, social workers, etc. In a war that can’t be won the government itself becomes the special interest pushing for more and more war.
