I’ve been using ebay to buy and sell my possessions for about 5 years. I’ve had over 300 transactions. I’ve made some decent cash selling everything from computer parts, to a lcd monitor, to a pair of my jeans. I’ve also bought some things for cheaper then you can get anywhere else. The only time I’ve had a legitimate issue, was when it involved, you guessed it, the post office.
I’ve never had a problem with it, and I’ve been using it for years. I’ve heard horror stories involving Paypal though, where buyers initiate a dispute and claim they never received an item in the mail, or where sellers send an empty package (with tracking info) and claim that the buyer is lying about having never received an item when they file a dispute.
Of course, the feedback mechanism does a good job of reducing the likelihood of this happening.
Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but empirical evidence never proves* anything.
Furthermore, to say that people are “basically good” implies that they have some inherent goodness to them. But a concept like “goodness” implies value judgements – who is making these value judgements other than people? If one’s answer is “no one”, then how can he continue (logically speaking) to claim that people are inherently good?
- I’m using “prove” in the sense of logical proof, of course.
