Economic Crisis & Emmigration

Reminds me of the person who makes a racist joke and doesn’t hesitate to add “I had a black friend once”.

Actually, a lot of these people talking of moving to Somalia for “liberty” remind me of the kids who talk about moving to Amsterdam for the weed. A lot of the idiots who talk about how much they’d love to move to Amsterdam so they can smoke weed all day or whatever never do, because just about any teenager can find weed in a given city or town within a few hours, even if it is easier is some places than in others. On top of that, Amsterdam isn’t a particularly nice city, the people there are a annoying, it’s a long way from home and their families would more than likely disapprove. Likewise, if you asked people on these forums why they’d like to move to some shitty African country the best they could do is give a few trivial reasons for wanting to go and perhaps say they like the lower taxes. Which is useless because by moving to some dump you’re pretty much giving up any chance of living a decent life right there. And in the end they don’t go because they like having access to the internet to read all about how great Somalia is and they like being able to walk down the street and get a Starbucks, in fact they like being able to walk down the street without the possibility of being shot and/ or catching AIDS.

I heard good things about Botswana.

Singapore kills druggies.

The world will not end, again.

Things would be better in Central/South America if the USA would wise up and end the “war on drugs” that’s given the drug cartels so much power there.

Things would be improving much faster as well in both the middle east (esp Israel) and Africa if the USA would stop the AID, and crazy agricultural tariffs and allow these countries to improve. (Sources: CATO and Harry Browne’s book Why Government Doesn’t Work)

As the saying goes, trust in Allah, but tie your camel. It’s best to have a plan on hand.

Does anyone know anything about conditions in Eastern Europe? Canada is getting quite tiring.

Perhaps if things really got tough Misesians could band together, buy one of these places and start anew off the coast of Belize (which I hear speaks English, right BB?) and be de facto independent?

It’s even more awful.

The whole world that won’t speak Chinese is going under. It’s best to bunker down where your resources are, your family and friends, and get ready to fight it out.

Belize has a lot of potential but lots to overcome also. It is a pseudoindependant British commonwealth with a Governor General appointed by the queen. The people, while speaking bruk up kriol english, have little backbone when it comes to individualism, too many neocolonial relics. The younger generation is mostly leftist thanks to the prominence of ngos and usaid.

But it is small and could easily become the Hong Kong of the Americas with the right folks and capital. Be carefull buying islands there, their titles can be crooked.
